Rating of Doctors

in Head and Neck Cancer #1

Hi All:

I was wondering if there is a trusted website that I can go to to look up my mom's oncologist? She lives in a very small town and has already experienced a bunch of issues with her doctor / hospital. I did a general google search and found some info, but I would like to see if there are any infractions against her doctor.

    I honestly don't know

    but there's a chance someone on here is in the know about how to look up an individual Dr.  I live in a small town, so know that choices are limited....what are the chances of getting a second opinion from a big cancer hospital?  I believe all you have to do is pick up scan CD's, and ask the Dr./Hospital to send the paper work for another hospital to be able to see it.  Thinking of Mayo or MD Anderson....or another big one....all dependent on where she is located.

    What kind of issues are coming up....we might be able to help you with those, also.

    This information is very helpful. Not only for finding ratings on current doctors, but also finding other doctors in the local area.

    She did get a second opinion from a larger city (San Diego). She is choosing to stay local, because I guess they pay for more of the serives. She hasn't started her treatment yet, but she feels like she is getting the run around and that they are highly disorganized. I guess the true test will be once they start the radiation and the chemo. The San Diego Doctor has asked her to see him once per month. I am thinking that he wants to keep an eye on the treatments to ensure that they are effective.

    This information is not secret.  Many states publish it, and if they don't, they still make it available.  Here's a website: http://www.checkbook.org/doctors/discipline.cfm  If your state is not on the list you simply need to call the State Board of Healing Arts for your state (it may not be named that, but it will be something similar).  OTOH, don't overthink this.  Disciplinary action is a very late finding in a bad situation.  If you rely on printed proof, you may not find anything to help you.  If it feels wrong, it is wrong.  Even if it is acceptable care, and you don''t trust it, go somewhere else. I had that situation, and I ended up going 350 miles from home for my care.  That even included moving for four months to get the chemoradiation required.  Its no fun to do this, but its worse if you don't follow your instinct and go where you trust the care.
