Mammograms with port
Has anyone got a mammogram while still having the port in? I need to do that but wasn't sure how the port affected it. Thanks.

Thanks Traci!traci43 said:Do it!
My port isn't really affected and the technician knew how to work around it. I've had at least 7 since I first got my port in. The skin might tug a bit more, but I swear it didn't hurt.
Thanks Traci!

Sounds painful, but then mamograms sound painful without ports.
Shouldn't you be getting your port out in a few months, after your next clear scan?
I will be interested to read other posts.
Our insurance states weSue,
Our insurance states we have to get a checkup every two years or else I have to pay an extra $250 a month! I need to get it done by November so not sure if the port will be out then. I get another CT scan next month and my onc said if it's clean, I can get it out. I'm scared to though since it's an office visit.

Trubrit...have you not had a mammo? They really don't hurt ..little awkward being manhandled by some technician but actually I find it easier than the manual exam by the doc which makes my skin crawl...hate it.
Sorry..no idea about the port but I'm overdue for one myself. Been putting it off in fear of any more bad news but I need to get it done.
Good luck .. I hope it doesn't hurt and you get good results.0 -

Thank you all. I'm notwmcbane said:I Had one earlier this year
It was not a problem at all. I don't even remember talking about it with the tech very much. She just was careful with how she positioned the plates on that side. It was no worse than usual.
Thank you all. I'm not worried about the pain. Just worried the port would break or something.

just had one
I just had one and was very apprehensive about it. I showed the technician my port and emphasized how nervous I was about it. She was very good and always had an eye on my port while she was positioning and repositioning my breast. My port seemed to puff a bit afterwards but it did not hurt. I had a diagnostic one so I had pic after pic taken then an ultra sound...thankfully all was good! I get to do it again in a year! On a lighter note, a few years ago I had to have a biopsy done. I walked in the room and the first thing I notice is all these ugly calender pages taped on all the cabinet doors...then...I noticed the exam table...I laughed out loud...there is a hole in the table for you to lay on your tummy and your breasts fall through the hole! There you are laying on your tummy, looking at these sad calender pics with your boobs hanging! I told the nurse, a man designed this didn't he!
We laugh or we cry! I prefer laugh!

Good question
That is a good question, Cynthia. I am due for a mammogram in the next couple of months too. Hadn't even thought about the port issue. I have my annual physical exam appointment with my GP next month. I'll ask her if she thinks it is an issue. I would hate to dislodge it somehow.
