As it turned out, my husband ended up with stenosis of the vertebral artery after many years of flying the F-16 and it was worsened after radiation therapy. Consequently, he suffered from a series of very small strokes (the neurologist said they were even smaller than TIAs) so he can't walk very far, has to wear diapers and he's ONLY 63!!! He has no appetite, gets winded easily and insists we cancel the follow-up with the oncologist in September because he doesn't believe he can handle the daily trip for treatment. Please phrannie51, tell me how I should be feeling, I've been taking care of him for the last 3 years and I'm afraid I'm going to lose him for real this time because it looks like he's given up Thanks for listening

I can only tell you how I'd feel if I was walking your path. Scared and powerless. You're on a very hard road, and I wish I had something to offer you other than prayers.....we have so little control of other people...that includes husbands. Have you talked this out with him....that you feel like he's given up, and find out if that is so. This follow up is one day....it isn't daily....
I don't know what the treatments are for stenosis of critical arteries....is there any thing they can do to improve blood flow into his brain?

"I don't know what the treatments are for stenosis of critical arteries"
My understanding is that it can be treated much the same as narrowing of the arteries of the heart. Angioplasty and stents. In my case, being that I suffer from cardio vascular disease, this is something that my cardiologist is monitoring as well as my team.

P, i've just seen these words a lot lately and read somewhere that f u had radiation, you should keep a check on it. well, thats fine but f u don't know what it is or what symptoms to watch for, how can you keep a check on it?? was it mentioned to u thru trmnt? not me. i read about it on here or web whispers. but it is important for anyone who had radiation to watch. i know they do "doppler tests" to check to c f the artery is clogged but that's all i know. i am going to ck out the link you were kind enuf 2 find for me.
i am back from the ent. i posted the results on the tongue cancer post, please read. and thanks 4 letting me hang out in your pocket!!
