just a question (or 2)
My aunt had an appointment with her oncologist on Friday (the 16th of August). She had pneumonia and was admitted to the hospital. Yesterday they told her that the colon cancer, which had already gone to her liver, had spread to both lungs and today they will talk with her about hospice. I guess my question is, does that mean "the end"? Since the cancer has gone to her lungs is there no more hope? She is no longer getting chemo...I'm just wondering is all.

A tough situation
Each person's situation is different. There have been folks who have had mets to liver and lungs who continue therapy to manage to growth and number of mets.
Her overall condition and previous response to therapy will have an impact on recommendations from the doctors.
If she and her doctors have determined that no additional therapy will help her, then it is doubtful that there is hope for her to have any improvement.
If she has any doubt about this, then perhaps another doctor's opinion should be sought.
Wishing your aunt pain free days and peace of mind.

2nd opinion
I agree with lovekitties, I'd get a 2nd opinion if I had any sort of doubt.

At the very least, a second opinion!!
She absolutely needs to get other qualified opinions. Just because the colon cancer had spread, is no reason to quit early. She has many options!
Take a deep breath and locate other colorectal surgeons that are NOT of the same group or association as the present ones. Get appointments with cancer surgeons. She needs to have as much information as possible.
Good surgeons and physicians welcome second and third opinions; it’s how they can learn of new developments without having to attend seminars.
And when you hang out on any forum, look at the profiles of the individuals answering your questions, you might learn of other ways to deal with this problem!
Hospice should be the very, very last resort. Just going into one can wreck one’s hopes for a healthy resolve.
It’s the doorway you don’t usually walk through twice.
Get other opinions and research as much as you can, of all the ways cancer patients have survived.
Good luck,
John

Sorry for your loss.
I don't know what's harder, caring for someone you know is dying, or going through their things before the sale of their property. Since her family was wiped out in under 2 years, the only one she has left is a granddaughter...she's 24 and lives in TX (moved there from PA after finding out about the cancer--I think she should have stayed to help, but then, opinions are like A$$holes, everyone has one and they usually stink) Anyway, it's hard going through my aunt's house, she had so many things that belonged to my mom and my grandmother (their mom) as well as things from her own family. How do you know what to do with everything, when you think everything is important and it's hard to give away or sell or especially throw away or even donate.
I mainly returned to thank everyone for their condolences. I do appreciate the thoughts and prayers.
Please know that you're all in my thoughts and prayers. I wish I could wave a wand and make all the bad stuff go away forever.
