I have had 2 ports one location. no issues.

I had a port in my left chest connected to the left arm's vein.  It was removed for 3 years, and then I had it put in under the same scar and the same vein.   No issues.  I have had it the second time for a year now. The second install, the surgeon cleaned up the scar left from the first surgeon. The second port looks a lot better, and is not irritating me from the inside.

    Best Always,  mike

    Good to know

It is good to find out some of you have had the port put in on the same side more than once.  You are all so great!

    Thanks for all your feedback!

    Get it out

My Oncologst wants me to get my port out as soon as I get my first clear CT scan, which should be in about two or so weeks.  He said he doesn't likle the risk of clots or infection if it is left in too long.

It does not bother me at all, and I wouldn't have been opposed to keeping it there for a while longer, but will do as Doc tells me, as I respect his opinopn.

I am with you about not getting it done in his office. I've heard stories that lead me to want to get it out in the same hospital I had it put in. I had Propofol, so not a general anesthetic but I'll be out cold.

My doc told me no big deal to

My doc told me no big deal to leave mine in for a year with no consequence.  Now I have to look this blood clot thing up!  Amazing how one question on a post can lead to another. I'll be damned if I went through all of this to die from a blood clot or infection!  I'm doing it out cold, no interest in having a clue.  My grandbaby (who is one) loves to pinch it so I'll be glad to get it out.

    Deena - I've had 3

The same surgeon put them in the exact same spot each and every time....no worries there.

    Note on Port Removal...

We all want to get them out...but sometimes it pays to be prudent....if something comes back soon, that's another surgery with added expense....unless the port is malfunctioning.

I had gone 2 years clear this time and was considering removing it, because I was beginning to have clotting issues....we got the port clear and I figured I'd hang on.....now with confirmed cancer again, glad I still got mine in....saves me a surgery and all that comes with it.

Of course, when I was younger, I wanted to remove my port...and did....the older you get in battle, you learn that cancer is recurrent...and generally not a one-off deal.

    Just something to consider...
