I'm concerned

in Head and Neck Cancer #1

A couple weeks back, I went for my ,1 year 8 month, check-up and scope. All was good. NED

Since then, about a week ago, I started sneezing and coughing and just in general, feeling like a head cold. Just thought I'd ride it out, taking honey and cinnamon mixed.

To get to the point, 2 days ago, I awoke to the raspy, in and out voice, I had at the first months of my recovery..my throat isn't sore, I still have the cold . When i keep my throat moist, the voice is okay, if I go for a while not talking..it's not there or takes a few seconds to come back.

Please, tell me someone else has had this happen, I do the exercises faithfully, no problem swallowing, should I contact my Dr, I don't want to, I just want this to clear up and go away..thanks for any help

    where you live, but I'm in NC and the allergy season is in full force!!  We are all raspy, snotty, congested and sneezing.  It's a way of life here! haha  I certainly hope it's nothing more than a summer cold.  I'd probably call the doctor just to make sure.  I have a feeling I'll be calling my doctor a lot more now than I ever have.

    happens to me all the time

    My voice is marginal.  Whenever I get the least bit of cold, or allergy, Im raspy as can be.  This has been true since rads 18 months ago.

    watch and see if you improve

    watch and see if you improve over a couple of days, if you dont improve just call your doctor and have them look at you, probably inflammation

    due to allergy season and larynx is just reacting

    Something to remember is that your body will continue dispelling radiation for many years. I am 11 years passed and had radiation twice and i still have episodes of radiation like sore in my mouth and throat. What scares me most is when I bleed like a wounded dear and think oh on this is it, only to go to the ENT the next day and she can’t find anything wrong. If you are concerned by all means call your doctor that is what they are there for. After a while you will learn what your new normal is and settle in more not worrying as much.

    to all for the comments, I loved the one by Hondo, stating after a while I'll know what my new normal is~~love you all and if I'm not better Monday I'll call my ENT.

    Aches, Pains, Sore Spots, Etc...

    You're gonna get them, especially the first few years..... You know, those years when you're already gun shy, and suspect of every little thing that's different from the day before...

    If ever the doubt gets bad enough it's bugging you too much, see your ENT or whomever for a sanity check... Better pro-active, than reactive...

    I think the fact that

    we pay attention to every "difference" on a day to day basis is part of our new abi-normal.  Every little thing makes me pause and think.  Last week I had a sore throat for 3 days.....I was in a total "uh oh" mode till it went away.....nervous and swallowing constantaly to check on it and see if it had changed.  I told myself it was from eating 1/2 of a pork steak the night before it started....tender but SO dry that I probably raised hell with my throat......still, the "uh oh's" were hanging in there till the sore throat went away.

    I don't like this paranoia, but haven't figured out a real way to keep from doing it.....our own  little space in the PTSD world it appears.  Hope John is right and it fades away.

    I think that P phrased it the best.  This abinormal limbo we find ourselves in stinks.  We know our bodies the best, if this doesn't clear get into the dr.  It could be a bug of some kind.  Listening to all the long term warriors on site gives me a better insight to live with the nagging issues of living after our dx's.  Hugs sent !  Katie

    Feeling wonderful

    Just home from the ENT's, sinus infection and was starting to move into my ears...antibiotics for 10 days, no need to return unless I'm not feeling better..said ears would probably take a little longer to clear~~~I skipped back to my truck

    Oh good!

    I'm not sure that I've ever been able to say "YAY" about a sinus infection until now :)  I'm so glad that's all it was!

    I would have been

    skipping, too...LOL.  It amazes me that say....3 years ago, a sinus infection would be a sinus infection....a sore throat would be a sore throat, an ear ache would be just that.......we wouldn't have given it much thought other than "oh crap"....unless it hung on for a month....but now....3 or 4 days, and we go "uh oh"....and get scared.

    Ain't that the truth

    Head and neck can put fear in you, I truly believe what Hondo said " once I get to know the new me" I'll quit with the "uh ohs".

    Isn't it wonderful to have a site where you can express your worries,fears,delights, and sadness and all understand~~ we've all been there done that
