Moffitt visit
Met with Dr. Wade Sexton at Moffitt Cancer Center today. He is recommending partial removal of kidney. This process started because I was having a burning pain in my right groin after doing a couple of miles on treadmill. I was fairly certain I had a hernia. But ultrasound, CT scan and two doctors said no. The scan, however, revealed the 2.5 centimeter tumor on my right kidney. Well, Dr. Sexton found the hernia. He had me cough a number of times, poked and prodded, and there it was. So he wants to do both the hernia repair and partial nephrectomy at the same time, laprascopically, two surgeons. Dr. Sexton is having me come back to Moffitt for a special renal MRI for clarity on how much kidney to cut ... Still have not received results of shoulder MRI.

Excellent Dr....
I also met with Dr Sexton as part of my 4 DR tour to get 2nd, 3rd, & 4th opinions. I didn't go with him but that was due to timing and distance. He did consult with my Surgeon/ Urologist prior to my surgery, which so happend, was one year ago today 07/17/12. A year ago I was in Intensive care at this time 2:00pm ET, revovering from a Rad Neph that ended up being a 5.0cm stage 1/ Grade 1 tumor.
Feel at ease my friend, you are with one of the best!

Who did your surgery? I like Moffitt, but one of the issues is that I live in Cape Coral, which is a 2 to 2 1/2 hour drive. In 2006, I had prostate cancer surgery at Moffitt, and that went well. Dr. Pow-Sang did the procedure. My local urologist wants to do the partial robotically, but he has done only 40 kidney operatons with the robot. Dr. Sexton is much experienced in the operating room. He would do the procedure laparoscopically.

Have you seen or talked to Dr. Ornstein? He is the one who did my surgery in April of this year, in Naples. He's one of the best surgeons and specialties in daVinci robotic surgeries and laparospic surgery w/robotic assist. He has NO bedside manner...very cut and dried and you have to drag information out of him, but he is one of the top kc surgeons anywhere. He did a great job on mine. I live in Lehigh Acres.

Again...see Dr. Mehalik (sp) at the orthopedic clinic in Ft. Myers. He replaced my husband's right shoulder and Bill had almost full range of motion with no pain in 3 weeks! His success rate is 99% and he specializes in shoulder replacements.

Thanks for the feedback. I will check him out after I get through my kidney surgery and recovery.
