Said goodbye to PEGgy :)
I said goodbye to Peggy this morning! It feels so strange to not have that thing hanging around. I wasso grateful to have had the PEG, I don't think I would have survived without one. I feel such a relief for it to be gone, though. The nurse said it looked great, clean and well maintained but that I definitely didn't needit any longer. She stuck a syringe in one of the ports on the end to deflate the balloon in my belly and pulled it right out. No pain, no flinching, nada! I watched!! The hole gurgled, a little liquid spilled out and she covered it with some gauze. Much easier than I expected. In and out in less than a half hour. Stopped to celebrate with a Bojangles bacon, egg and cheese biscuit

If I ever had to have one again...
I want the kind with a balloon!! The kind with a bumper on the inside hurts to take out.....the Dr. compared it to yanking a quarter out a dime hole....
Congrats....there is a lot of warm fuzzy happening when that thing is GONE.

Shoot! That's what I have. There were these little buttons they cut away a week after they put the PEG in. I can feel the other bumper under my skin. Ugghhh... When I had the drain pulled from my neck after surgery, it was similar in that the tube inside was larger than the tube outside and I ain't gonna lie... It hurt like MoFo! I had tears in my eyes! Yes... I'm a wimp when it comes to pain...
The only warm fuzzy I want is when the pain meds kick in after they yank it! ~lol~"T"

too...they took them out a week later. The port end of Peggy had 3 "caps"...one was very small with no lid and that's what they deflated the balloon through.

I have two openings that look like the inflatable end of a beach ball and one that's sealed. The larger one is for feeding and flushing. Maybe that's it but I'll know next week!

of how the end of mine looked.

Here it is...
The middle one of course has the syringe in it for "eating", the one to the left I never used and the one on the right that says 16 on it was where they inserted a syringe and deflated the balloon. That was my hubby doing my very first tube feeding for me

At least from that end, mine is identical. Just hope it's as easy as yours to remove.

said they would "numb me up" and get it out. Then she looked at the one with the 16 on it and said "oh, you have the balloon...even easier!" She brought a small syringe (no needle...just like for feeding but smaller) and put it in there and pulled out some air and "juice" from my stomach. Then she pulled the tube right out. I watched some, but honestly was waiting on some pain. It didn't feel like anything really. Then the gurgling and sputtering of stomach acid caught me off guard! haha She wiped it up, put a gauze pad on me and off I went

So Long PEGgy, so long peggy
So long PEGgy, we're glad to see you go.
I was so happy when they pulled mine out, I wasn't as lucky as you and had the dual bumpers so a loud pop and a slight sting. I was looking forward to sleeping on my stomach, but it was just a little too tender in the first couple of days. Took about a week and I was back to my old sleeping habits.
Glad to hear it's out, one more milestone on the road to recovery
congrats!

This is the kind Rob had. Bumper on the inside. Just grab and pull. No numbing. Had 2 ports. one large for feeding the other was very small for liquid meds. we never used the the tiny one. Although when we clamped the tube after flushing we would open the little one and shoot water throught the big and whoever was sitting next to him would get hit with water shooting out the little one. Ah good times

I'm 11 months out, and well....a biscuit sounds very good....but I know it would turn into crumbs in my mouth....so not at all satisfying. I gave very tender pork a try the other night....my throat has been sore for 3 days.....guess that's too dry, too....must have scratched h*** out of the back of my throat.
