Anxious

I am just a couple of days away from being 3 weeks post tx. Phlegm and sour throat are the only real after effects I am experiencing. I am not taking any pain meds, minimal throat pain, no peg, eating soft foods and drinking. Managed to put 5 pounds on so far. I am anxious to get back to work (carpentry), and riding my bike. I don't want to overdue anything, and end up setting myself back. How long should I wait before I start trying to get back to being my pre-tx self?

Thanks

Tony

    Welcome Tony...

There is no set time, your body dictates when you can do the things you want to do.

Of course that being said, and not knowing what exactly your treatment was...calories and hydration are the main drivers. You have to get enough calories into you to recover first, and any extra for the things you want to do extra...

If you had rads, that usually takes a good 6-8 weeks after finishing just to get back to somewhat healthy enough to start attempting things.

But each of us being different, we all have our own time table.

    Congrats,

    John

    Your Recovery

Hi Tony.  I do not have any words of wisdom for you, as my brother is the patient and is just shy of one week out of treatment.  I just want to thank you for your post.  It is very exciting to me to hear how well you are doing.  I wish you the best in all you do.  It sounds to me that you are well on your way to a very satisfying recovery.  Be patient.  Don't let the beast drag down your spirits now!  Continue to push forward.  If you push too much, your body will let you know.  Good luck to you and God bless!

I'd think you could start some stuff

at the end of 4 or 5 weeks.....I went back to work full time at the end of six weeks.  It all depends on how you feel.....I do think tho, that this is a time of building up slowly.....very slowly....Like don't exhaust yourself.  Set small weekly goals, and if you have to, keep the same goal for the next week.....slow and steady.

    Pre-Tony right around the corner

    Tony,

You sound like you are doing great.  As was said, the rads are still working.  I don’t know how hard you are going to push yourself, but think your body will let you know how much is enough.  As you are aware, this wasn’t like any kind of normal sick, your treatment may have kicked you around  pretty good (inside).

Be good, be careful, and take it easy.

    Hi Tony ...

I used to be on here quite a bit ...so hello.  As for "when can I start...."   Holy cow man, you are 3 weeks out and doing what you are ALREADY!! :)  You've already started (and got a huge jump on) doing better! Congrats!  Don't change a thing...you are on your way fellow warrior.  I'm actually quite jealous!! :)

    I started

back to work part time a week after treatment.  I just went slower, left earlier and took a nap almost every afternoon!  I'm not one to sit around the house and I was very ancy to get back to life.  I overdid it the first week and ended up in bed almost all weekend.  Take it slow and steady and listen when your body says it's tired  :)

    Your own pace

Take it slow and easy and don't peddle to far from home. You will be losey at hide and seek at night for a while. The grandkids found me easily because of glowing in the dark, guess that's why I was always it.

I would still talk to the Doc(s) and get his opinion on making your comeback.

    Heal on
