Gift idea
Hi. How about some UV protection clothes/neck wrap. My first outings were to the golf course and I was really worried about the sun. I bought a "neck gator" which wraps around the neck so that I could golf without worrying about the sun. I have also purchased some shirts for extra protection. I needed to feel like I could still do things that I loved so this really gave me the extra confidence that I needed to enjoy my outside activities. Maybe you could buy this and then take him out to fish!

That's a great idea! Dad would probably use something like that too since he is quite the coffee drinker! Do you know where she did this?
I thought about getting him one of those mugs with the mustache on it. Lol, I can't wait til he gets his famous tache' back!
Marcia got my mug at http://www.cafepress.com/ It had a design in front and back. They have lots of other stuff too!

What about...
a fishing hat (one with great SPF and sun protection), a tackle box and you can put a gift card inside for lures and such? That way you can give him a little present AND the gift card can be used when you take him shopping to get some things he likes. You can even put a little sunscreen in there too

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm
Material things at a time like this just don't have the same meaning as a personal message or expression how you feel about someone. It certainly is no secret how you feel about Dad and I think the best present would be just tell him and show him how much you care and appreciate the fight he just fought so he will be around for many years to come. Make your own personal card to express your thoughts. The card will last far longer than a gift certificate. he can keep it and pull it out at anytime read it and be proud of his daughter that stood beside him during his battle. Were with a gift certificate he buys something and then it's gone or a shirt that he wears for a year or two and wears it out. I have little things that were given to me during and after my battle that mean the world to me. Your Dad will remember this battle the rest of his life, especially that he ended his treatments the day before his birthday. Give him something that he won't neccessarly use just something he can look at and smile because it has a special meaning only to him and something nobody else has.
I have confidence you will come up with something that Dad will remember forever. But in the event you get him an ugly tie and he disowns you, I am always open to adopt another daughter. LOL come on you know I can't always be serious.
In hopes Dad and your whole family enjoy this special day.

Have been following but had no good suggestion until Jeff's post then it hit me that that is where I am too. forget the "stuff" and do something personal. As a graphics/web person I was thinking of composting an image of some favorite location such as his favorite fishing hole then overlay that with an image of you and he sitting/standeing together and placing that over a corner so it looks like you are there. Something really memorable to look forward to once up and going again. If you are handy with crafts or kintting, anything smasll but personal would be a lot more meaningful, IMHO. don

That's a good idea, I neverKTeacher said:SPF
Hopefully he will be able to go out fishing, how about SPF shirt and hat. Sports Authority as well as on line places. I don't know about others but winter was so cold, hard on me. A gaitor (neck wrap) and or ear muffs, gloves. I lost so much weight this time and sizes. This sounds silly, but I didn't feel like going out and shopping, comfortable outfit or even p.j.'s that fit and underwear (I couldn't believe it would be so hard to find undies in my new size).
I also vote for the chair pillow and a massage sounds so good.
That's a good idea, I never knew they made SPF shirts and hats. Sports stores carry those? Or do you order special online?
Thanks for the info!

I was just thinking how great an SPF hat would be and you beat me to the post :-) Not only could it be worn for fishing but any outdoor event. I have one that is SPF 50 and rolls up for travel. I think they make them for men with a flap to cover the neck too. My radiologist said to be extra careful in the sun for the first year so your Dad would get some use from it and it shows that you put allot of thought into it.
Having a daughter like you is quite a gift in itself!
If your Dad is like the rest of us, he won't be going anywhere for awhile without a water bottle. Maybe a special one with his favorite sport team or Bass Pro logo. My fav is a simple Rubbermaid one that I got at the grocery store.

Thanks! That's a greatCandi,
Thanks! That's a great idea, I didn't even think of the water bottle thing... I may be able to find a special one as he is a busy bee typically.
Thanks for the compliment as well

Where can I get a neck gator? Any tips? That's a good idea as he has been putting cut up shirts and wrapping them around him when he goes outside.
Thanks!

Good ideas Tracy! I actually looked online and saw that some site makes "fishing baskets" kind of like easter baskets, only filled with all kinds of goodies! You all are giving me great advice!

I have found the shirts at Big 5 and Sports Authority. I am sure REI,Cabala and Bass Pro must have some. Hats online at Sunday Afternoon, I have wide brimmed hats for summer and a wool one for winter, there are also shirts and neck wraps on the Sunday Afternoon site. I have been very happy with my shirt, long sleeve, and I love my hats.
I also wear scarves and ear muffs in the winter.
