Anybody who has any reason to call me is on my phone so I just ignore/block any other calls. When I'm at work, IF it is obviously (not hard to figure out), I just block.

If we don't recognize the number, we just let it ring and go to the answering machine. We've never gotten one on our cellphones, just our landline, which is good. I guess some have on theirs.

We don't get many either anymore, which I am so happy for! Most of the time it isn't a live person, it is those robo calls.
Lex
Yea, those robo calls are the main ones, I think, anymore, so, there is no one live to even tell to go away or whatever choice words you want to use. LOL

I know I posted onceKobias said:I don't know if the registry
I don't know if the registry helps, but since we've signed up on it, we have gotten less calls, so, I would say it is helping.
We put our land line and our cellphone numbers on it.
I know I posted once and complained but time to complain again. It's worse.I had 8 calls one day for a 877 number and this went on for 3 days this week,There was one with another area code but it was just 2 times. So if this keeps up my whole phone/answering machine will be loaded with just these calls in a week. They always just hang up but takes my space for people to leave a message. I don't carry my phone all over the house and have to run from one end to the other and then I see it's just those 1 800 numbers.I've given over and over and why they call but won't now.Husband retires and we need every penny. We're trying to figure out how to cut back now. That's just for things we need and want. Which leaves no money for donating.
I was told I pledged but maybe I didnt get it in the mail. They wanted to know when they could expect my $30 pledge.I had no idea I would ever say that amount.Anyway I told them I can't do that.So they wanted to know how much I can donate $10.I donated my $10 and now will not answer my phone.
I think I will try the registery. When my husband saw all the calls he told me we were not supposed to get telemarketing calls.Hate to think we pay not get them but get 8 or more a day????
Trust me I'm wore out this week running to get to the phone and put back by that many calls in just one day,

That is awful Lynn! I know, I am the same way as far as running to catch the phone, just to find out it is a telemarketer. The registery will stop some of the calls, but, I don't think it can stop all of them. I don't know if they have to have so many complaints before they do something or not to these people calling.
I just hate these calls too!

We are registered with, I think, the National Do Not Call Registry. I guess I need to check that, and, I do turn them into it. I guess I just got too many today. lol
Sue

sirdaSIROD said:Where Does The Money Go Towards...Research? Pockets?
First of all, you need to know where the money that you are given is going. Is it to help with Administration cost or is it only going to Research?
One has to look at Komen who spends most of it's money on Administration, Awareness, Education and does not give very much to research any more. At this rate, Running for the Cure will take eons which is what they want in order to continue to pay for the high cost of Administration. I am not saying they didn't once do good work, they did. Now.... look at the record.
People are not expected to work free but six figures is a little much for any non profit organization CEO.
Before I donate, I know all about the organization, who, where, what, why, when....
Best,
Doris
i am with you when i start making six figures i will start donate again,i cant get any help at all.then they call me i tell them i donated to cancer because i had cancer

I wonder if anyone ever talks to these people or does what they ask. I think the government is trying to cut down on them by creating the registry that anyone can put their name on. I don't know if it works though.
It's strange that we get none for so long, then out of the blue, we get several a day for a couple of days.
They are bothersome and annoying. I really agree with you.
I am sure that some people have fallen for their scams. It is unfortunate, but, I am sure a fact. I wish the government would crack down harder on them.

You need to register with the do not call registry Lynn. It probably won't halt all of them, but, you can turn them in and it might help to get rid of some of these telemarketers.

Rant and Rave all you wantLynn Smith said:After years
After years answering the phone and get telemarketing calls I am now checking my caller ID.If it'a a 1 800 number I ignore it. I get mine mostly from Cancer funds.I donated to some orgs then they expect it every month or so.They tell me I promised this amount etc and when they say you can put it on a debt or credit card I don't do it.I don't use a credit card.Havent in years and my debit card is somewhere in the house but have no idea where.I don't use it.I pay for store bought things with cash or check.
Husband is retiring and we've made plenty of donations to organizations. When you tell them things will be rough they still say all you need to make is a small donation.Yeah and you make that small donation and they call back in a month or another group calls you. I really think I've made double donations before.Guess I should write it all down and know when the same group is trying to get more money in a few months and not annually.I think this is happening with us.No more answerig the phone.I've even had them hang up and be very rude.Like OK and slam the phone down. Or else hang on and won't let you say no.I guess that's when I need to hand up on them.Just say NO and hange up.
Don't get me wrong we've donated our fair share but we have to slow down or maybe quit with retirement ..Cancer groups and March of Dimes are the 2 main ones.
Lynn Smith
Rant and Rave all you want Ritzy! I wish it were illegal for any of them to ever call anyone! We are registered on the Do Not Call, but, a few get through.

I recently heard on a talk radio station in my area that although you have your name on the do not call and they are supposed to follow that, all/a lot don't. They reason is that the fine is so little and them making the calls out weighs thefine. I also heard that a lot of them use the do not call list to call those of us on it. They have to make so many per day, etc. My problem isn't with all of them, just when they don't take no for an answer. My mom had one eons ago she said she was in the middle of sitting down for supper and the person just kept talking. She's also too nice, I told her next time just hang up the phone.
I've alleviated most of my telemarketer problems, as I have a cell phone only. Harder to find me.

If you only have a cellphone, do you get any telemarketer calls? I wouldn't think you'd get any. I thought it was mainly just the land lines.
