Getting a bit concerned about my dysplasia site....
Hi all,
In February I posted here for the first time because I had a lesion on the right side of my oral tongue which needed biopsying.
The pathology turned out to moderate dysplasia and the diagnosis was pre-cancerous Leukoplakia with no evidence of carcinoma in situ.
On April 30th I had much of the right side of my tongue treated with laser excision. My follow up appointment is August 1st (two weeks tomorrow - For those that don't remember I'm in the UK and everything is very sloooooooooooooowwwwwwwwww LOL)
Generally my tongue has healed quite well, given the large area the laser had treated but the main area of dysplasia - Where most if the thickened leasion was - Hasn't healed that well (I don't *THINK* it has anyway - I don't know anybody thats had this treatment so I can't really say what is normal at this stage and what isn't)
The area has formed what looks to be a thick lump of dead tissue on the under-side of my tongue.
The tissue is quite loose and if I rub my finger over it I can kind of push the tissue up far enough to get my finger underneath it. Around this lump of dead tissue an area of white has appeared that looks suspiciously like more leukoplakia.
This evening the dead tissue has been bleeding. Not a huge amount, but enough to taste. I'm not in any pain, but given I'm ten weeks after treatment I would have thought the area really shouldn't be bleeding.
Just wondering what you guys think?

I'm not overly concerned, because I'm not having any pain and I can eat OK. But the bleeding this evening was a bit of a surprise.
Given I'm only "pre-cancerous" when I go through the heartbreaking threads on here I always feel a bit of a fraud for even being here TBH.

everything is ok, but it's worth a call to the doctor to put your mind at ease! You are TOTALLY welcome here!! I've found this is the nicest and most caring group of people you'll find!

Bleeding
Gavin,
Rinsing with ice water can and will slow bleeding. If it persisits you should head to a clinic or doctor immediately. I had a tonsil bed erupt 10 days post surgery and needed emergency surgery to stop it. I was spitting a lot of blood and it was pooling up in my mouth and throat. I lost a couple of pints from the time it started until they stopped it over 6 hours later.
During that time I was sucking on ice to keep the bleeding down."T"

I'm not sure what would be
I'm not sure what would be normal because I'm not familiar with it However, hope you get things figured out. It never hurts to go in and have someone look at if it if it worries you- may take away some of the anxiety. Praying for you to heal fast!

I've not had any more bleeding today and no pain or discomfort. I wonder whether because it's quite loose whether I might have caught some food or my teeth on it while I was eating?
If I have any more bledding I'll certainly contact the clinic, though like I say, I'm actually going for my post op appintment two weeks today, so not long to wait in any case.

Positive Thoughts...
I know nothing of your situation, but I suspect what you might be feeling (and messing with to the point of bleeding), is scar tissue. But of course I could be totally wrong.
What have your MD's communicated with you, presuming you have had some follow-ups?
Pat (longtermsurvivor) should be able to give you his thoughts, he's a lot more qualified than I.
Best,
John

Part of the lump came away while I was eating on Friday and now my tongue is starting to look much better.
I think when I go back for my post op appointment Thursday week the doctors will be pleased with how I'm progressing.
