Checking In
Wanted to check in with everyone. Hope everyone is doing well and trying to enjoy their summer
Rob is now 5 weeks out of treatment and doing real good. Still tires but not as easily, hardly napping anymore. Mouth has healed real well. Maintaning his weight and maybe gaining a few. Back on solid foods and can taste some, mostly sweet. Can't take any real cold in yet, so no ice cream.
He woke one morning about 2.5 weeks ago and no pain. Started eating just befor the 4th so we had our annual BBQ and fireworks and had a great time. No breads yet as saliva is still missing but that is about all he has a hard time with. Went out to dinner last night for the 1st time in 4 months and he had ribs. He eats a little slower but eats everything. They will most likely pull his tube next week.
We are going away for 3 days to Houghton Lake to just relax and smile.
Had a checked up with ENT, MO and RO on July 1. Onlymeds he is taking is morphing but he is on taper down and will be off that by next week. Docs all said it looks good and PET scan is on Sept 12. Two of the docs scoped him and said healed and looking great. We have one node that is still about the size of 1/2 a pea, but they said it will keep shrinking as radiation is the gift that keeps on giving. If is lights up on the scan we can either do a wait and see or just go in and pop it out.
Now that he has lost 25 lbs his diabetes may be gone. Has not taken any meds for it since treatment started and his glucose numbers are great.
He has been helping me in the garden and flower beds and working on the cars around here to get some stamina up. Not ready to go back to 13 hour days at work but probably when we come back from our weekend trip he may get back to some employment.
Eveyone stay strong, push on and be cured. Prayers for all and best wishes. I will check in often. It has been a whirl wind of activity for couple weeks but slowly getting a little more normal.
Sandy

Wonderful....it's heartening
for everyone, but especially the newbies, to hear that there is light that "yes, there IS light at the end of the tunnel, ya just have to wait to get there".
This three day weekend is going to be great for you two.....a step back into normal, after a long road in the dark.

It is so good to hear that Rob is doing so well and so soon after treatments ! I would say he is progressing a lot faster than most of us . Also wonderful that his diabetes is gone , I sure hope he can keep the weight off and his sugar levels stay good ! he is so lucky (I guess) to be able to taste sweets . They were my favorite before and I don't like them now , but that is probably a good thing . So glad y'all are getting away for a long week-end and back to some normal things . Have fun . Peggy
P. S. at 8 months out of Rads I still can't hardly get breads down .

Hello Sandy !
Rob sounds like he's doing wonderful.....and as far as the diabetes in check HURRAY ! I hope you both can kick back and enjoy the summer. Tell him to not try to be super human though. I don't mean to be a downer, but his body is still healing. This all in all is super fantastic news though ! Hugs sent ! Katie

I can't get enough of these kinds of posts!
It is so great to hear this kind of news, Sandy. I am very happy for you both. Phrannie is so right, it is very, very good for us newbies to hear that things can, and do sometimes, get back to near normal so quickly. My brother is down to 6 more rads. I can only pray that I will be sharing this kind of outcome in six weeks from now! Keep the happy posts coming!

Good news...
Thanks for dropping by and giving us an update. Glad he is doing so well. The bread will take awhile. It is still a little difficult here for Kreg at 6 months out....lots of water to get it down. Taste is coming back...and mostly sweets!
Keep us posted and enjoy your summer!
