I go for blood work today and Med. Oncologist next week. I AM hoping/ wondering if she will take me off Tamoxifen.

I have heard some being on for 5-6 yrs. Anything proven it is helpful , after FIVE years?

Any talk of extending you to

Any talk of extending you to seven to ten years, if not on tamoxifen then some other related drug?  My last appointment with my oncologist included his saying to me that he is seriously considering extending my treatment beyond five years because research is showing benefits.

I don't think the whole time it will be tamoxifen, as he has mentioned, even from the start, of making a switch part way through the initial five years.

I am sure you are happy to reach another milestone in your journey, though.

[I am thinking you live in NYS.  I think the #1 topic of discussion around here is the days and days of warmth and humidity, along with dumpings of rain here and there.  We have fared fine, so far.  Areas to our east have not fared so well.]

    Studies have shown that

Studies have shown that taking Tamoxifen more than 5 years has benefits to people with hormone postive breast cancer.

Here is a study from the NCI:

Here is a CBS News article about that study:

Hope this helps you and congratulations on 5 years of Tamoxifen, I know it wasn't easy for you.

No, after 5 years I stopped

My oncologist didn't feel I needed it any longer. That was 3 years ago. I need to touch base with her on my November appointment. I have heard of some going well beyond the 5 years.
