Preexisting condition?
Hi All,
My husband is contemplating a new job offer. He is 7 months out of treatment and so far, cancer free. He has really good life insurance that we got through his current employer before his tonsil cancer diagnosis. If we switch companies, he will have to get new life insurance I assume. So...here's my question....does this cancer diagnosis count as preexisting condition and make it harder to get? what about new health care coverage..preexisting there too?

Continuous Coverage
As long as you don't have a lapse longer than 63 days, I don't think you can be denied for a pre-existing condition. It's worth asking the new employer for details on the insurance, though. I was surprised to find out my new insurance changed my out of pocket cost on a PET scan from $300 (at my old company) to over $1500 (at the new company)!

It isn't really an issue anymore. He will be fine under a new employer policy. At the end of this year private insurance will be fine also. We will benefit from this provision.

When I switched jobs many years ago
the life insurance was simply ended at one place and the "going" life insurance with the new company just kicked in....there were no questions asked about my current or past health. Medical insurance policies, as long as there is no or little break between, have no pre-existing clauses in them....that's been in effect for years.....and with some of the new stuff coming in with Obamacare, may not even count at all anymore.
