Muscle loss

I am so confused. Hubby is 11 weeks post ivor Lewis suppose to go back to work in 2 weeks. He has lost 50 pounds and a lot of muscle tone. He cannot walk across the room without tearing is Achilles. He is constantly icing something, ankle, shoulder, knee. Doctors only say it will get better with time. I am trying to figure out why this is happening. My husband has a very strenous job I cannot see him going back to work without getting seriously hurt.

I think that can happen with

I think that can happen with rapid weight loss and lack of activity after surgery.  I would definately stress your concerns to the doctor and see if he can remain on disability for a bit longer.  Will he have insurance to cover that?

Then, check with your local YMCA, they have some exercise programs that are specifically geared toward cancer patients.  Not overly intense but should work on strength and flexibility.

The surgery is aweful and such a change to the system, it would be great if they could give him more time.  I bet the Dr's would grant it, just need to check with his work.

Good luck and I am glad he is doing well enough to even be considered to go back to work.  My hubby was out 7 months!

    muscle loss

Hello, I've been wondering how you and hubby are doing. I think this is normal. Larry had his surgery 3 months ago. He is older than your husband but very active and strong before all of this. He has lost 50 lbs since surgery as well. He is very weak as well. Nothing but skin and bones and soft tissue. It worries me everyday. I would get an extention of his medical leave. This is always much harder than people ever dream it will be. Especially when they do physical work. Good Luck.I hope things improve.

    Hi Laura on several occasions

Hi Laura on several occasions I have  thought my husband and yours are similar with their recover. I am going to have to go behind his stubborn butt and call his doctor. I am positive if he returns to work he is only going to end up hurting himself.
