Why can't use useSue;
Why can't use use regular deodorant during rad treatment? My rad doctor has not said anything to me about that. I have completed only three treatments. Would it be advisable to use deodorant after treatment? I will check with the tech tomorrow.
Thanks
You also should not use any kind of soaps with perfume or fragrance in them. The perfume will irritate your skin and some soaps contain it.

Rads weren't easy for me andKobias said:I've started radiation too
I've started radiation too and it isn't easy. Starting to dread having to do this for weeks yet, but, I know I have to.
I am lucky as my husband is taking me every day. I hated for him to take off work, but, he said he wouldn't have it any other way. It does make me feel good knowing he is there with me.
The technicians and my radiation onco are great. I really am so lucky to have such a great team, and, I really feel they are my team.
I haven't read all of the posts here, but, I will for any help.
Wishing everyone going through rads now good luck.
Rads weren't easy for me and I don't think they could possibly be for anyone. Know that we understand and empathize with you. Let's get you all done with rads!
Hugs, Rose

The sooner the better for me! I've started taking naps and it has helped with me not being so tired all day and night.

My RO's nurse did a lengthy demo showing me how to care for my skin. I got some special cream from her, she said they used Auquaphor before they discovered this stuff. I don't know the name but she scooped some into a container for me and it only takes a tiny bit and it works, so far. I'll try and keep you updated on my progress through the radiation treatment and I'll look out for yours. She did say that because I have a little darker skin I may noy have as much troubloe. All I know is, I had a major sunburn when I was 19 which blistered and oozed and I was a mess and ever since then I burn kind of irregular and uneven. I knw this is not exactly sunburn but it's similar.
Take Care and God Bless
I've always tanned really well and not burnt, so, I am hoping I won't with rads.

Getting lots of rest is important. Just going everyday for weeks alone is exhausting, not counting the treatment you are getting 5 days a week. Naps and going to bed early is what I did. I normally am a night owl, but, not during rads. Be kind to your body!

That's great that they did that for you TexasCharlie. I wish they would have for me. They told me some and gave me some pamphlets, but, it seems there is still so much to know.
I've always tanned great, so, I was hoping I would get through this without burning. Crossing my fingers that I won't burn, or if I do, that it won't be so bad.
I will keep watching for your updates TexasCharlie. I hope you do great with radiation and thank you.
Candi
Even if you have always been able to get a good tan and not burnt, rads are so different, so, you can't judge from that. I wish you could though. However, with the new machines anymore, I don't think there are bad burns anymore, but, I don't know for sure. My rads onco told me that.
Hang in there!

I took vitamins before rads and was also told to not take any during rads. You don't want anything to plump up and make stronger any cells, especially the cancer cells.
Diane
I didn't know about the no vitamins, so, I asked my rads oncologist and he said that I shouldn't. Thanks for posting that on here. I was taking them all.

I was fortunate that I was already tan prior to starting the radiation treatment. I was going tanning prior to my diagnosis...So, I'm just getting darker...I have been putting aloe vera cream and vitamin E oil on afterwards...I don't know if this is helping or not...I'm half way thru my treatments...and not having side effects...Good luck to you...

Those of us that have had rads can't stress enough to you to get your sleep and to use your creams! I had a friend that didn't think she needed to use any creams at first as her skin was doing nothing, but, she later regretted it as her skin got awful.
A few times I was so tired that I almost took a little nap right there on the table. The techs put on the soothing CD music that I had brought and it relaxed me so much that I was almost out. lol

I have 7 days to go and the area looks like a lobster's shell but it doesn't sting too much and hasn't blistered. I got some Aquaphor and Lidocaine 2% 50/50 mix from the nurse and that helps the itching. Hope you are doing O.K. Candi.

Have you tried Biafine Charlie? It is especially for burns. It might help you even more.

The RO added 3 more days and I am blistered on my side. I have a whole bunch of meds to use and it really isnt too bad. Next week he said he will concentrate on just the incision area, after that I'm done. Then I have to take estrogen blockers for 5 years and herceptin every 3 weeks for a year. The Onc told me what the reactions and side effects from the E-block might be but, it is mostly related to menopause so we really don't know what will happen with me. I'm hoping nothing but, we'll see.

I just finished up my rad treatments. I had to take two weeks off from rad treatments. I burnt so bad I would put cream on it would run off and my skin with it . I bleed a lot and could not wear cloths. I couldn't stand anything to touch me. , this was after two weeks. I have had a lot of problems, so if your just a little pink after two weeks just watch your skin, Mine went to far. he said they gave different doses to different people. and they were trying to blast the cancer. IF I was you and this is just a suggestion, I would keep my skin soaked in Aquaphor. I set two weeks with no blouse in my room .I had burnt till I bleed and my skin came off and I hurt and still do. Just watch your skin and keep it from drying. Hope this helps some. I will be thinking of you.. wishing you the best
Muffingranma, I haven't seen you post any new update since this. How are you?
