When you're down, what TV show or movie lifts you up?
As a librarian, I'm obviously a big fan of books and reading, but I love a good movie or TV show too. One show that I just finished on Netflix that I really liked is Arrested Development...super wacky humor (and sometimes to convoluted for my poor brain to follow)...it's fun!
A favorite movie is Shaun of the Dead, the only rom-zom-com (romantic zombie comedy) I've ever see. I own that one so can watch it whenever I like.
What do you guys like to watch to get a little distraction or lift your mood? *
*Bonus points if it's something I can stream on Netflix!

Steve absolutely loves NCIS.
Steve absolutely loves NCIS. Even watches old repeats. Stays up late watching it. Watches it while I'm at work.
We are both into anything that involves serial killing. Can't get enough of it. Aren't we twisted! Really loved The Following with Kevin Bacon.
Also love Homeland with Claire Danes.
Also enjoy The Voice, Dancing with the Stars and Survivor.
Have supper every night in front of The Young and the Restless. We are big tv watchers.0 -
Overboard
If you have never seen "Overboard" you are truly missing out. This is with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. It is so a pick me up movie because it shows the good and not so good of people but in a great story line. I've probably watched this 25 times and never get tired of it. Another movie I love if I'm down and this is a downer movie but a great ending is "Fireproof" and "Chronicles of Narnia." These all are feel good movies and well worth the watch.

I like Castle
Castle is a recurring show and fortunately my cable has it On Demand so I can go back to watch earlier shows or ones I missed.
It has a little bit of everything...drama...mystery...humor and life lessons.
Of course it doesn't hurt that the star of the series is 6' 2", blue eyed Canadian hunk!
Makes me think, makes me consider, makes me laugh.

I watch the movies over and over again. I've read the books at least three times. I started reading the books while undergoing chemo after my initial diagnosis. Another great movie is Moonstruck with Cher and Nicolas Cage.
Love Chris Farley!
Movies are a great distraction.
TV Ellen at 3 pm CST....very funny....
Movies: Hangover I II and III
Admissions Counselor - Tina Fey and Lilly Tomlin
Netflix has very funny French subtitle movies....some are romantic comedy
Kinky Red Boots....very good and heartwarming -the name is something like that. I believe it was on Broadway
recently?
Netflix - Call the Midwife- may be off due to summer. Set in England working district. Three young nurses deliver babies with the help of nuns. Their lives and patients.
I love a great movie0 -
One of my very favorite movies is...
Shaun of the Dead! Never get tired of watching it over and over with my daughter. Looking forward to seeing "The World's End" when it comes out in August.
I have to admit, I am addicted to many HGTV shows, like House Hunters and Love it or List it. Patrick and I like to watch Shark Tank together and say, we didn't we think of that? Of course we love our Philly sports teams, baseball in the summer, ice hockey in the winter. And Downton Abbey is greatly missed at the moment, can't wait for the new season.
Have to say that watching a bit of TV does not make us "couch potatoes", it just takes us away for a time, and there is nothing wrong with that!

Movies
Some older movies George and I loved to watch were:
Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (Carey Grant)
Father of the Bride ( the original with a young Elizabeth Taylor and Spencer Tracy)
The Great Outdoors (John Candy)
On TV I will watch anything real housewives when bored. Does anyone really wear that much make up or argue and complain and complain about crap the way they do? Sometimes they have so many hair extensions and make up I am surprised they can walk upright.
Hugs to all - Tina

Arrested Development IS a
Arrested Development IS a good one. Just plain ole silly. And my exboyfriend (still great friends) has been bringing by seasons of the League (I believe it comes on FX). It is a bit raunchier comedy but keeps me rolling. I definitely would not watch with children in the room. And then there is my old standby from back in the day Friends.
I usually only watch action movies but am looking forward to Mud coming out on DVD in August. I haven't been able to make it out of town to see it in the theater and a couple of my boys and their jeep are extras. They had about a second of stardom

have to get it in DVD, but that's ok. Kind of fun getting the occasional surprise package in the mail anyway. Thanks for the suggestion!

the funny thing is that the first thing they both mentioned was the star's good looks, so he must really be something! I have On Demand, will check it out. I need a new show to start.

one of those great movies that the whole family can enjoy (I sound like a commercial but it's true!).
Haven't seen (or read) The Help yet, but it's on my list to do. I've heard a lot of raves (along with a little controversy, which makes me want to see it even more).
And I'm afraid that I'm hopelessly old-fashioned when it comes to books...I don't own an e-reader. I love the feel of an actual book in my hands when I'm lying in bed at night.

it was so sad that he died so young. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is a favorite.
And I really like watching old movies. For some reason, when I was very sick, I found the slower pace to be more soothing than modern stuff, and they helped me feel more removed from the challenges of the present.

Didn't know we had actual movie stars (or I guess the family of stars...but 2nd hand fame is good too) on this board. Pretty cool!

just need to find the time to watch it. I can only do one series at a time! How are you feeling anyway? Is treatment going ok? Good TV (or even crappy TV sometimes) was such a lifeline on those long days at the infusion center. Hope you're feeling reasonably well!
And if you like cooking shows, have you ever checked out the "dark side" of the cooking world...Kitchen Nightmares? I just watched one episode recently (Amy's Baking Company), which was just insane. Have to see it to believe it.
