Telemarketers! Do I Hear A GRRRR?

First let me apologize if any of you are a telemarketer.  I am sorry, BUT, do the rest of you get sick and tired of those stupid phone calls at all hours of the day and night?

Don't get me wrong, we don't get lots and lots of them as we have something on our phone line that if they don't reveal their phone number, it doesn't get through, and, that stops, I am sure, many of them.  But like today, I've had 5 of those calls and no offense to anyone again, but, most of them don't even speak good English.  They are probably coming from a different country like those emails that Susie posted about awhile back.  lol

My hubby laughs at me for even getting upset about them, as, he just ignores the call if he doesn't recognize the number.  But, I sometimes think it could be important, I pick it up ( even without knowing the number ) and answer it.

Just awhile ago I got one from the "United States Governement Service".  1. I could barely understand him.  2. I told him I wasn't a citizen. ( I am, just thought I would toy with him since I highly doubted this was real and his accent was heavy.  3.  He asked me where I was then.  4.  I told him that if he was really the "United States Government", I'd think he'd know.   Click!   LMAO

Ok, thanks for letting me rant!

    When there were
When there were state/national "Do Not Call" registeries for us to sign on to, we did.  That has taken care of most -- not all -- most of the problem.  (This apparently does not apply to politicians or special interest groups.) The other thing is that I could usually tell when the call was a telemarketer or some other unwanted caller because there would be no immediate response to my saying, "Hello?"  I did not repeat that.  I hung up.  I did not get any immediate call backs.

I hate those too.  Can you

I hate those too.  Can you turn them in?  So few people have land lines anymore that if they finally find one, I think they all go crazy calling it.  I wish they all could be stopped too.

    We are registered with, I

We are registered with, I think, the National Do Not Call Registry.  I guess I need to check that, and, I do turn them into it.  I guess I just got too many today.  lol

    I don't answer!

Anybody who has any reason to call me is on my phone so I just ignore/block any other calls.  When I'm at work, IF it is obviously (not hard to figure out), I just block.

I am on the Do Not Call

I am on the Do Not Call Registry and don't get many of those calls anymore.  I, like Susan, have my regular callers on my ID and it show them unless they block their number.  My doctor etc. always show who it is.  My feeling with all the other calls, including a couple of my family members who block their number is that if it is important they will leave a message.  If I know who it is I return the call.  My sister in law has on occasion asked why I don't answer her.  I told her to unblock her number (which you can do for a single call) and I will.  Otherwise leave a message and I will call right back if I am home.  I always do call her right back.  She can see it's me and she answers.  Funny thing is that she does the same thing with blocked calls.  Go figure.  Most of the telemarket calls show as 800 when they call.  I think they should have to list there number and name by law.

    good point about could be

good point about could be important and not know the number. ABOUT  a year ago on my lunch hour I got call on my cell and took it (UNKNOWN)-my daughter used someone elses phone after someone ran a red light and totaled her car. Her phone flew on impact and couldn't find it.

At home if 800 or 866 I do not answer.

I assume you are on the no call list and still get calls>

    My usual response...

My response when I get calls is :

"I'm sorry, you caught me at a bad time, can I get your phone number at home and call you back? Oh, you don't want to give me your home number? You're right, I imagine it WOULD be annoying if I had the ability to call you on your personal phone whenever i felt like it" *click*

We're on the do not call

We're on the do not call registry and we still get some telemarketing calls.  If I don't recognize the number, I just let it go to the answering machine.  If it is a telemarketer, they never leave a message.  We've never gotten a telemarketer call with a 800 number.  Ours are from all over with different area codes.

Hate them!  I turn them in

Hate them!  I turn them in too, to the registry.   Maybe someday there is hope that they'll stop!  LOL

Seems if the Government can spy on our phone calls etc., maybe, they could do something about these telemarketers?  LOL

That is ok when there is someone ( a real live person) on the other end to talk too.  I am on the "Do Not Call" registry.  Some of these telemarkerters are SPAM (most) and are recordings.  After I said hello and there is a pause, I hang up.

There is no point in getting mad, annoyed and etc.  It is a fact of life.  They are going to be around for a while until someone high enough cares about getting rid of these people.  Hang up and forget about it.

The telemarketers that bother me are the Cancer Drives.  When they begin, I tell them I am stage IV and do not wish to talk about cancer at the moment.  I say this before they try to hit me for money.  Stage IV is hard enough to deal without these drives begging you for money.

Don't they know how expensive cancer drugs are.  I was at the cancer center the other day.  The guy next to me was receiving treatment when the oncologist nurse came over to said that Walmart did not have the cancer pills he needed on hand.  However, she said the price was over $2000.00 for 7 pills.  This poor soul had no Plan D (Prescription plan).

Why doesn't someone do something about the cost of cancer drugs, that is a real reason to be angry at the pharmaceuticals.  Grrrr....

    After years

After years answering the phone and get telemarketing calls I am now checking my caller ID.If it'a a 1 800 number I ignore it. I get mine mostly from Cancer funds.I donated to some orgs then they expect it every month or so.They tell me I promised this amount etc and when they say you can put it on a debt or credit card I don't do it.I don't use a credit card.Havent in years and my debit card is somewhere in the house but have no idea where.I don't use it.I pay for store bought things with cash or check.

Husband is retiring and we've made plenty of donations to organizations. When you tell them things will be rough they still say all you need to make is a small donation.Yeah and you make that small donation and they call back in a month or another group calls you.  I really think I've made double donations before.Guess I should write it all down and know when the same group is trying to get more money in a few months and not annually.I think this is happening with us.No more answerig the phone.I've even had them hang up and be very rude.Like OK and slam the phone down. Or else hang on and won't let you say no.I guess that's when I need to hand up on them.Just say NO and hange up.

Don't get me wrong we've donated our fair share but we have to slow down or maybe quit with retirement ..Cancer groups and March of Dimes are the 2 main ones.

Where Does The Money Go Towards...Research? Pockets?

First of all, you need to know where the money that you are given is going.  Is it to help with Administration cost or is it only going to Research?

One has to look at Komen who spends most of it's money on Administration, Awareness, Education and does not give very much to research any more.  At this rate, Running for the Cure will take eons which is what they want in order to continue to pay for the high cost of Administration.  I am not saying they didn't once do good work, they did.  Now.... look at the record.

People are not expected to work free but six figures is a little much for any non profit organization CEO.

Before I donate, I know all about the organization, who, where, what, why, when....

    Best,

I wonder if anyone ever talks

I wonder if anyone ever talks to these people or does what they ask.  I think the government is trying to cut down on them by creating the registry that anyone can put their name on.  I don't know if it works though.

It's strange that we get none for so long, then out of the blue, we get several a day for a couple of days.

They are bothersome and annoying.  I really agree with you.

I don't know if the registry

I don't know if the registry helps, but since we've signed up on it, we have gotten less calls, so, I would say it is helping.

We put our land line and our cellphone numbers on it.

    Sometimes, if you want, you

Sometimes, if you want, you can call them back and if you get a live person, ask them to put you on their do not call list.  It has worked for us before.
