Update on dad

Just wanted to take a minute and update everyone on my pops!

He has 29 (out of 35) radiation treatments left and 2 chemos left.  29 seems like way too many more for him to go through... it's scary to think about. So far no nausea or any other side effects that I'm aware of.  I spoke to him for a minute this morning before I came to work and he was feeling a "little tired", but still planning on going for a bike ride to his property to do some things.  He's one strong man!  Hope these next 2 months are a breeze!  Please continue praying for him and my family and keeping us in your thoughts.  As I will be doing the same for everyone who is going through it, about to go through it or has been through it.

All but one of his radiation trtments he drove himself to.  Think mom wanted to be there for the first one and the chemos. Wish I could be there, but I would probably be a mess!  I'm just so proud of dad cuz I know its not easy... I worry about him so much, but I am positive he will be cured (as the doctors say) after these trtmnts. I know as many have said, things will wear him down. I don't look forward to that...I do however look forward to July 23rd when trtments over and dad can start healing!

Who said that they wish cancer would get cancer and die? Yeah...I second that thought.

Thanks for the prayers and positive thoughts!

Cherie

It sounds like your dad is

It sounds like your dad is doing just great.  I hope and pray it continues for him.  My brother is just on day 8 of his journey.  I pray when he is 29 days into it I will be able to say he is still riding his bike around!  Best of luck to you and your dad.

Your Father sounds like a great guy.  I will continue to keep your parents in my thoughts and prayers.  And I hope he continues to have very few side effects.  Wishing you the best !  Katie

I thought you were a newbie

I thought you were a newbie too.  :)  Did I read your post wrong?  Probably.  So, your dad and my brother are pretty much on the same course.  I will be praying for both of them.

Sounds like your Dad is off to a great start! The time will pass quickly and he will be done before you know it. I believe cancer is every bit as hard on the loved ones as it is for the patient. Your family will be stronger after making this journey together. If I can offer a suggestion, it would be to see that your Mom gets some "me time" periodically, whether it means filling in for her a few hours or having someone else stand in (if even needed) while you & your Mom go for lunch or shopping or the like.  It will likely do your Dad good as well to see his loved ones enjoy a break, I know it did me.

    Cherie,

I am glad to hear your Dad is off to a good start and that  you have relaxed a tad.  I did not have the luxury of driving myself since I was taking Lorazapam, which I needed to duel with the mask.  Ask your Dad if he listens to music during rads?  Get ready for week 3, that is when he may lose his sense of taste.

Oh just give him a big hug and a kiss.

    Matt

    Bike rides

    Hi Cherie

Bike rides are a good way to ameliorate the fatigue impact from rads.  My RO said that some activity, even just a short walk, can help with energy levels.  Good for your dad.

4 down, 29 to go, it sounds like a lot left, but it will go by quickly.  Here's hoping that he continues to weather them well.

Yup, I'm a newbie! I think I found this site around the end of May. So glad I did! Yes, I knew that a few people are right on the same course. How is your brother doing? Good I hope! I'll be praying for him also and praying for you too!

    As always, thank you Matt!

As always, thank you Matt!  They gave dad Ativan I think for his nerves.  He seems to handle it well, I think he does a lot of praying while he is in there.  He has a hell of a lot more strength that I do!  He did complain to my mom this morning that he has a slightly dry mouth and things are just starting to taste a "little funny".  Dad likes music, maybe I'll run it past him.  I got to give him hugs n kisses yesterday! He's handling all of this like a champ.  I hope he continues with the positivity like some of you have been able to do so well.

    Best wishes,

    Cherie
