Emotional Rollercoaster
Hi ~ I am new here and I need help. I have had a bilateral mastectomy, complete chemo and radiation and have been on tamoxifin for about 3 months. I hate the way I feel!!! I will be extremely happy and then the very next minute I am angry and irritated at everyone and everything. I don't care about anything anymore. I feel like what's the point. I have tried talking to a therapist but I didn't like her very much she made me feel as if she wasn't listening to me at all. I have called all of the therepist / physc that my insurance will cover and either they are not taking new paients or dont even return my phone calls. I feel as if im drowning. Everyone keeps telling me to exercise.. I know this will help but i can't even get myself to get up and do it. I don't want to go anywhere and most of the time when i am home i sit in my room by myself because i feel irritated by my husband and kids. I dont' know how to get out of this

when i was diagnosed the social worker at the breast center connected me to a sister (pink sister) that was my age, my diagnoses or close to my diagnoses. she gave her my number and we have spoke a few times. we are planning on meeting in person soon. it will help to have someone that has already been thru it and can be your mentor. call your social worker from the hospital or from the breast center. so so sorry your going thru this. your in all our prayers

Hi
I remember being exactly where you are right now. I feel so bad for you because I remember how I felt. The best word to describe it is "lost". Everyone is giving you advice, but you can't bring yourself to do anything. I get it. I was irritated, mad, sad and every other negative emotion I could think of. The only way out of it for me was depression medicine. The therapist helped, but I needed meds because I could not get over the shock to my system that being diagnosed caused. I went on lexapro and I gradually became myself again. It took the edge off. I stayed on go for about six months and it saved me. Please talk to your doctor about this option. There is no need to suffer any more than you have to.
Many, many hugs to you,
Ginny

I asked my oncologist for
I asked my oncologist for something to help with anxiety/depression. I found I just needed a low dose of lexapro and I was coping much, much better.
If you decide to take something, clear it with oncologist because some meds are not compatible with tamoxifen.
BTW, depression/anxiety/anger, etc. is more common after a cancer diagnosis. Your onc will know this and should be able to help.

Just an update
I would like to thank everyone for your information. I spoke to my doctor and she prescibed me a low dose of Citalopram (antidepressant) Hopefully this works. She told me it could take up to six weeks for it to help.

I am so glad you talked to your doctor! There is no reason to suffer more than you have to. Give it a little time, it will work.
Hugs,
Ginny
