I did it folks

Hey friends,

i ended my speech therapy yesterday! It was happy and sad Lena my therapist was such a supportive soul and i will be sad not to see her 4 times a week. But its time for me to be a big girl and push on on my own.  So i finished at puree level and not many different ones at that.  My bithday is coming June 4 and i can eat cheesecake without the graham cracker crust and drink my much loved coffee so thats what will have to celebrate instead of Mom's homemade chocolate chocolate chip cake:(, but when i offer cold chocolate ensure for everyone thev all balked, dont know why,its good! Lol

anyway if any of you have awesome purees that you find were easier to eat please forward recipe for me id appreciate it! And again. From the bottom of my full heart THANK YOU for all the support to climb the mountain, long way to go to be close to normal but quite happy where i am!

    Rachael,

It is that time of year for graduations, well congratulations.

I hear you on the bday cake, for 27-years I’ve had the most delicious (scratch made) German Chocolate Cake with Rocky Road ice-cream, but I had to pass on it last year.  This year I will be back on track or at least heading in the correct direction.

Now, I am available for coffee each morning (black no cream or sugar), what time works for you.  Oh yeah, save some cheese cake for me, I need to probe my taste buds in that direction.

    Getting better,

    Matt

    Congrats Rachel

For the smoothies I bought a blender, Vitamix brand, at costco.  Very expensive, but oh man, it can blend concrete into liquid if you wanted it to.

It comes with recipes and of course, we have the thread that has many on this site.  so take a look at that option.  It works like a champ.  May be

some less expensive, but this one is very strong and solid.  I drink a lot of shakes too.  I buy some Boost VHC drinks and then doll them up with a starbucks coffee or fruit, etc.

Glad you are graduating to the next swallow level.  Be proud of yourself, you deserve it.

    All the best,

    Steve

    Way To Go Rachel

They don't call it Dunkin Donuts for nothing. Just take that hard to swallow cake and cookies and just start dunking. Cake you may have to use a big spoon but it works. After you move up this way the wife and I will meet you and your Bo for coffee. My wife's treat....well I take that back she will make me buy.

    Take care

    Defy the odds

    Hi Rachel,

Congrats on defying the odds and taking a step forward! I had the feeling you'd do it :) So if you can eat cheescake, does that mean most soft foods? Pudding? Jello? Cream of Wheat? mac and cheese? eggs? etc.? If that's the case, then you will have a decent menu to choose from.

The suggestion on the Vita-Mix is a good one. Those things are tanks!

Positive thoughts, prayers for cotinued success and progress...

    T my Friend,

thanks for your support and continued prayers I always need shout out to the Lord!

yes to your question, soft foods are in but more pureed like mashed potatos, cheesecAke without the graham cracker crust.  Eggs scrambled, cream of wheat, etc.  but some are way harder than others and i never eat more than a few bites so i am still dependant on peg for nourishment.  But being able to handle thin liquids shich surprised them is the saving grace, such relief for my throat!  Tonight for snack i am trying chocolate icecream and see how it goes.  Custard was the easiest food for me to eat, ecen though egg based, cant live on that!

how are u. I pray every night for you and all of our friends new and old on CSN?

    Congrats

Hi Rachel my dad and i also did swallow therapy as well as 3 throat stretches ad he is now eating most foods with the exception of chopmeat and ck breast (too dry) he used the bullet for sometime for extra nourishment it worked great.

His food seems to go down better with any liquid be it gravy or cream sauce or even a baked potatoe.  He seems to choke if he tries to eat and talk at the same time so I do not advise.

I wish you continued success and just keep trying..what didn't work today may work next week.

    best of luck

    Cadhoarse,

its funny that you say that, through this ordeal, i kept thinking really God after cancer in 2000, infertity after cancer(do have beautiful 9yr daughter Faith since then), divorce, a few other side effecfs and issues THIS TOO! It was then that i got the meaning of "God never gives mire than we can handle" if you believe in Him he will alwAys be there to carry you through. Each test you must continue to go to God and ask for His grace and you will recieve it!

Thanks for sharing that message again! Good luck in your ordeal, here if you need me!
