the trival side of taste or not
Fellow taste buds,
Miracle fruit, miracle berry, miraculous berry, sweet berry whatever this stuff is called. Has anyone who has gone through radiation and had their taste buds zapped ever tried any of these?
At about $1.50 each, they are not cheap and I only want to take a dive off the thrill diving board if there is water in the pool.
I am looking for any comment. I know if there was some miracle drug for compromised taste buds the likely hood of it being discovered within the H&N forum is most likely believable.
Currently, my taste buds are slowly coming back on line, but what the heck I only go around once. I don’t want to screw myself and befuddle my current taste status, I just want to have some fun.
They say they turn sour into sweet, well that sounds dumb and not enough reason to try. What I need is a real life H&N patient that tasted the miracle and wants to share with the rest of us.
Otherwise, I am on the USS Skiffin for the foreseeable future.
Thanks,
Matt

Deb,
I am more cautious and tight with my money.
I want to know what is behind the door. After all I was hpv+.

couple did get them
I remember a couple folks here did get them. Hopefully they will chirp in but I sure don't remember any big blast of posting burning up the wire about how great they were and restored ones sense of taste in any meaningful or fulfilling manner.

Depends
Matt,
I originally posted about these... Here's the post:
A tip/hint I'll confidently pass on as I've personally seen it's effectiveness. When I started to see my taste go astray, I, at the advice of my PCP bought a product called Miracle Fruit Tablets. It's a berry extract that effectively acts as a halucinegen for your tongue. I just googled it and found a place here in VA that sells them (ordered on-line). The effect lasts for a few hours. Things that are bitter taste sweet and things that are sweet and have lost their sweetness re-gain it. It's done wonders for saliva production while eating too! It's not something I've used often but it's helped when I need a little edge in getting food into me
I tried it a few times prior to my mouth becoming too sore to eat..Is it the cure all for your taste buds? No. It's interesting and different for sure. It's more of a novelty that may have a few benefits. Results will vary. For example, mac and cheese didn't change but cream of wheat with butter and sugar was wonderful! I truly don't know if it would awaken sleepy taste buds but it may enhance the ones that are already awake. Problem is, I don't see it as something you'd take on a regular basis. It was pretty cool nonetheless. It did make saliva flow better when dissolving it on my mouth and that stayed with me while the effects lasted (about an hour or so).

"T"...tis crazy. 3 months ago I had 80% of my taste back, but no taste for sweets, nor spicy foods could I take...but I sure had taste. Now, phhhhttt. It's like the taste buds went back into hiding??? Go figure.
I'd sure like my taste buds to hallucinate if it means I could eat and taste without having to smell each bite as if I was some stalker just before putting it in my mouth and eating by "memory" for the taste. Sad.
Let me know, I'm still just barely young enough to take a gamble.

Tim,
For you I would walk across hot coals, well I would take a slight gamble and sample a miracle berry, maybe.

Pop Rocks.....
I think you should give those a try..., something different for sure.
I tried this new hair gel ... supposed to be good for men losing hair center back of the head.
It's a mixture of alum and persimmon juice...
It doesn't actually make your hair grow...
It shrinks your head to fit what hair you have...., dohhhh

That is all I need a “shrunken head”, it looks good on you.
Thanks p51, honesty is sweet or is it sour (give me a minute)

I'm tight too...
I'm tight too...Matt. Not sure the 1.50ea with the comments made here would entice me to try them. But, I think anything with a tartness would help wake them up. I think I'd try some candy if it were me.... LOL
My Examples to try:
1. Cry Baby Sour Gumballs
2. Warheads
3. Sour Power Belts
4. Shock Tarts
5. Lemon Heads
6......and Sour Skittles (not to be confused with Skiffin's Pop Rock)
If you have trouble shopping/finding these, get me your address...I'll do my best to hunt them down for ya.

Growing up in the 60s, never thought I'd be in a forum discussing halucinegens that included miracle fruit. My cheap fix, go to food of late, is Dennys chocolate chip pancakes $2.50 with extra syrup. You might have a better chance of scoring with those.
Matt, can you contact the company for a sample?

taste this, psych
Hmmmmmm,
I think Phrannie hit on something. If you have functioning taste buds the miracle fruit works as advertised anything less in the taste buds produce diminishing returns. Or in other words it is a sliding scale of SOL.
I think I’ll take Cris and hwt up on their suggestions.
I guess there is no cutting-in-line when it comes to taste buds, but you guys make the brain buds pop.

Matt,
Essentially that's the case. I was fortunate that I didn't lose my taste buds during treatment. Some things are a little "off" but overall I'm good. I have a couple of boxes. As I recover and can eat again, I'll give them a try on things that just taste funky and see if it makes a difference. Otherwise, I have a novelty for a "taste" party in the future.

I hopped right on the
Miracle Berry bus the day T mentioned them.....(I'll do anything to taste ice cream again)....got so excited the day they got here, I opened up the package and popped one in my mouth....waited for it to disolve, than RAN to the freezer for the icecream.....damn if hubby hadn't finished it off. So, I tried a popcycle....didn't do much for me. I did finally try it with ice cream, and no....they aren't worth $15.00....I didn't notice any difference....good for 3 bites, then taste was gone.
phew.......that was a confession....LOL.
