MOUTH SORES.........
I was given a prescription NYSTATIN, to use 4x a day if needed.....I never had any mouth sores at all and not everyone gets them.....everyone is different. I was also advised to rinse my mouth 4x daily with baking soda and warm salt water
I would strongly suggest that your daughter in law NOT TAKE ANYTHING without checking with her medical oncologist first! HERBS can interfer with the chemo drugs, according to my medical oncologist.....I took NOTHING that wasn't prescribed by my oncologist....they do know best....
I wish all of you the best0 -

I had sores with each treatment and gargled with baking soda and water mixture (1 tsp soda in 1 cup of water) -- worked great!0 -
Mouth sores
Yes, I got them, too. I had two prescriptions from my doctor to try to prevent and treat them. They are caused by the adriymcin. It sometimes helps to suck on some ice while the nurse is administering this drug. That makes the blood vessels in the mouth constrict and less likely to take in the adrimycin that causes all the havoc. After a while though, the ice started making me nauseated and I preferred to get the mouth sores. Totally psychological, but I couldn't stand it.
Also, as someone else pointed out, your DIL should check with her oncologist about any herbs or supplements she plans on taking while on chemo. Even things like anti-oxidents can interfere with the proper functioning of the drugs. Good luck. You're a great MIL.

mouth and tongue sores
I first started chemo in Dec. 2011, 3 months of chemo, then surgery removing all female organs, appendix, lymph nodes and omentum from stomach, I have ovarian cancer, the tumors are in the stomach, had no problem with mouth sores with that chemo, taxil and carboplatin 8 months total of chemo, a month after I went off chemo the tumors came back. Was put on a clinical trial for two monts using doxil and still had no problems.Except when I went off doxil, a cat scan showed the tumors had gotten bigger and another one had showed up. Then I was put on gemcitabine, it caused the red blood cells to go too low, so had several blood transfusions, only hAd two treatments of that. I am now back on Taxil and Avastin, had one infusions and now I have the sore tongue, and sore throat. Have been using the baking soda mouth wash, helps a little, but still a very sore tongue.
