Flatulence after AC TX, anyone?
Hey all my anal friends!
There has to be humor in what we must endure before, during and after anal cancer, right? Have any of you experienced a bothersome little noise post treatment? I am almost a year out of treatment and those noisy little farts never cease to amaze me. My 2nd graders would find them most amusing if they only knew; I don't think my teacher partners would though. I have to laugh because they are quite loud. There is no embarrassing smell - just a lot of loud toots. My surgeon who examines me every three months has told me the radiation did a number on my rectum/anus so the wall are thicker and don't absorb like they use to; therefore those little surprises that send you running to the restroom. All so strange... can't wait to get used to this new normal!
Hope you are all doing well!

I think this has probably happened to all of us--I know it has to me. I'm not sure the exact reason why, but it happens. Afterwards, I always make a trip to the bathroom to make sure it was just air and nothing else. I'm not sure how far out from treatment you are, but I found that it gets better with time.

I am just about a year out from treatment and I completely agree... there are times it is not just air - sheesh! BUTT, if that is the worst of it, I will take it! I am glad it has gotten better for you over time. How far out of treatment are you now?

I will be 5-years post-treatment in early September.

Consider yourself lucky that they don't smell! Mine sure as heck do! I'M nearly 2 years post treatment and have found through a process of elimination (LOL) that its certain foods. Anything with white, flour, potatoes etc will have me going......step, fart... Step, fart... Step, fart. ....Gets to the point where I'm too scared to walk!!! Like the others, as long as its just air escaping I can cope with it, I've my share of bad experiences thinking its just wind only to realise it wasn't !!!!!

hopefully it will all settle down.Hi, I know that I can write anything on this board, so here goes. Does anyone else besides myself experience what I would call wet farts. If you've had them you know what I'm talking about. Are they caused from the treatment for anal cancer? Any input would help......Thanks, Mitch

You mean like gas with mucous? That's very normal. The amount of mucous should subside over time. From what I understand the mucous is caused by the radiation. I'm over 4 years out and still have some, though not anywhere near as much as in the first year or two. One thing I learned - stand up slowly cause you never know when the push may come, and it's better (less, ahem, noisy) if you're sitting. Gas + mucous = very entertaining music.
