great articlemp327 said:thanks.... hopefully people will ask for anal paps and docs will learn how to do them....we all could have used more knowledge ....my best friend had both of her daughters get the vaccine after my dx... that is one step..... now , hopefully , docs will educate themselves.... my proctologist missed mine for almost a year and he did about 8 anoscopes on me and kept saying it is not cancer ... he never took biopsy... the pain while he was doing the DRE's was excruciating but i just thought that was the way it was with hemmy's....hopefully he is more aware now.... i have not spoken to him since i left and went to the colorectal doc who knew what it was ..... thx for always sending us great articles.... sephie

Article and question re. Menmp327 said:
Martha, thanks for posting this. I wonder what the risk to straight men is? I am certain that if HPV caused my cancer, it was from exposure by my ex. husband who had been unfaithful. I say this because I was with him exclusively and it is the only possibility. Does this mean that he may be at risk?0 -

So, should I advise him that he should have a test? I know that HPV causes several different cancers in women, but in men is it only anal cancer?0 -

I know that HPV causes several different cancers in women, but in men is it only anal cancer? To my knowledge, there is no test for HPV in men, with perhaps the exception of an anal pap smear. That test, however, is not widely done and usually only recommended for men in the MSM group.

Which leaves me wondering how many women he may have invected with hpv and if it is possible to know whether a man is a carrier of the virus for a long period of time. Bottom line, I guess there is nothing I can do about it.0 -
Sv40 virus or hpv?Marynb said:Martha

Bottom line, I guess there is nothing I can do about it.Just on the subject of hpv, has anyone else heard of the sv40 virus? Years ago I started going to a naturopath. Every thing he told me I had- bug, virus, bacteria etc i would go to the doctor to be tested ( I was a bit of a skeptic) lo and behold he was spot on with everything. Since then I see him regularly and a keeps me in pretty good shape. When I found out I had cancer he was my first port of call to see what he could do to help me, one of his test showed I was positive for sv40 virus. I went home and looked it up. This is what I learned. back in the 50's and 60's the polio vaccination, which is made from the liver of rhesus monkeys, was contaminated by this virus. In the meantime anyone who was vaccinated around that time was contaminated.
The sv40 virus suppresses a protein, p53.
p53 controls the protein p16
p16 inhibits CDK4 which is a tumor suppressor.
so, when sv40 knocks out p53, p16 runs amok inhibiting the CDK 4 tumor suppressor and we have an over expression of p16
hpv positive tests are "p16 positive" ......... So is sv40!!!
i just wonder how many people have been told they are hpv positive when maybe they just had a contaminated polio vaccine!
By the way it's something that the medical fraternity are either ignorant of or for political reasons won't admit to. I can understand this, imagine the law suits!!!!!!!
Does anyone else know anything about this?

I've never heard of this, but it certainly is interesting! I'll have to do some research. Most of us, I think, are at the age where we probably were given the polio vaccine back in the 50's and 60's. It would not be hard to believe that if there were effects showing up from it years later that there would be attempts to keep that info from the general public. Thanks for sharing this info.

I got the vaccine in the 50's and remember it well. I also had friends who were struck with polio. This is interesting and may explain why 1/3 of my high school class died before they reached 60?0 -
