Confused....choosing to believe the "good news"

in Colorectal Cancer #1

Hi everyone. I went to get approval from my gastroenterologist for the surgery today. Talk about a surprise!!! He said he sees no reason the other Drs want to have a look at my liver during this (hysterectomy surgery) because it is obvious to him that I just have fatty liver and the January CT scan showed no signs of cancer. And he also said there is no reason to have my colon surgeon on board because I didnt have colon cancer I had small intestine cancer. I said ,"well good, then I shouldnt have to be opened up then. If you guys remember from my April 29 post I have teally been having strong gut feelings about not going through with this surgery. My gastro Dr today told me I should ask the Gyn if he has strong suspicions of cancer and if he doesnt, then maybe I should suggest that we just monitor the situation. He also said he is going to try to get the colon cancer diagnosis off of my record! Needless to say I will have questions for my oncologist on the 20th when I go to see him. He always refers to my "colon cancer". Any thoughts from the REAL specialists (you guys) on this matter?

    Sorry to be humerous about this, it's serious... It just sounds like you're getting different diagnosis from the doctors. Hopefully it's nothing serious but if it isn't, time is important.

    I would consult an Oncologist at a well respected Cancer Center just to hear what they have to say. I would not go to a GP at all.

    To add to Phil’s comment…

     

    Get another opinion from a colorectal surgeon that is NOT of the same group or association as your present one(s). Oncologists sell chemotherapy, surgeons are more objective regarding treatments.

     

    You need to have other opinions regarding the options available, as well as the –real- diagnosis. It’s apparent that your present physicians aren’t telling you what seems logical to you.

     

    There’s an old adage:  ”when in doubt; don’t"

     

    Get other opinions - - ones that make sense to you.
