Low Dose Naltrexone? PLEASE HELP??
Hello everyone, I wanted to reach out on here as I am new to this blog. Maybe some of you can help me out with some information or even some sweet messages could cheer me up..I'll give a little background on my story my Mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 Uterine cancer, a very aggressive cancer and they did find some cells in her lymph nodes. So she has just finished 6 months of chemo treatment and Docs have seen some success in her symptoms shes had but overall her cancer has not gone away and they say they are not sure if it will so at this point it will be "treatable not curable." She has had some really nasty side effects to treatment as her levels have dropped so low to the point she has been hospitalized for at least a week at a time. As of right now, Docs want to stop doing chemo for good, there saying the alternative will be hormonal..I don't know too much about this does anyone know a little more about this type of therapy? Also, months and months ago when she was having really bad symptoms her primary recommended she try taking a look into Low Dose Naltrexone which I think could come in handy..another source I don't know that much about does anyone have any further information (I have looked into the website) or experience taking this? if it has benefited you? what to expect? or any other thoughts you have on it.. I would truly appreciate it and hope to hear from someone..thank you, my name is Kimberly.

Low Dose Naltrexone
Yes, my own integrative doctor (MD from Ivy League school who studied medicine in Eastern Europe for six years) suggested that I try LDN to try to prevent, or at least delay, recurrence of my very aggressive uterine cancer. Although staged at IB (confined to uterus), it is notorious for spreading within a few years.
Already on curcumin (550 mgs x 3 a day) and fish oil (two tsps a day) as well as a few other supplements, I started LDN in July, beginning at 1.5 mgs per night before bedtime. I had no side effects at all. I continued at this dose for a few months, then raised it to 3.0 a few months ago..
In most published literature about LDN, the optimal dose prescribed for CANCER control is actually 4.5 mgs per night, but some have minor side effects when they start at that dose.
NO seroius side effects have been reported, by the way; I might buy the book LDN which you can get online through Amazon for 15 dollars.
If this were MY mom and she were already stage III with an aggressive cancer, I'd try to get her started ASAP at 1.5 mgs and within a month double it and have her on 4.5 (unless she's very small and thin) within two months. It may not help, but it MIGHT--see the evidence--and rarely does it have any serious side effects, just vivid dreams or a bit of sleepiness.
I myself take it half an hour after melatonin (one 20-mg tablet by PURE) every night and feel quite good on it.
Again, I would Google LDN and Bert Berkson as well as the Penn State University researchers who realized that while using LDN for other conditions, it inadvertently had good effects on cancer patients, helping to delay or even prevent recurrence.
Best,

I also have integrative cancer care and I take 4.5 mgs of LDN at bedtime each night.
I also am on curcumin (80 mg after each meal) and for those not in the know - curcumin is a supplement that is essentially turmeric extract. (There are a few here that cook with turmeric and black pepper). I also don't like the taste of green tea, so I take a green tea supplement.
I also take other supplements and feel that they are doing me good.

Norah,
Two questions unless you don't feel like sharing this information: What stage of UPSC were you diagnosed with? And how soon after surgery did you start LDN? (And did you start at a lower dose than 4.5 mg?)
Thanks,
Rosey

Thank you all for taking the time to reply to my post, I appreciate it very much. Great advice, I am certainly looking into it and encouraging it for my Mom.
Hello Kimberly
Any update on your mother?
I am interested as my mother was diagnosed with Stage 3 endometrial cancer and is considering using LDN. Did your mom have success? Please share any experiences she had over the last two years.
Well wishes,
Alexis
