White Coating
It is a yeast infection that usually manifests itself as a white coating on the tongue but could also not be visible as is down the throat. It typically produces a thick mucous and mouth/thoat pain. There is a perscription mouth swish that contains nystatin (I can't tolerate the stuff) or a perscription pill called Flucocozole that is very effective.
Hope this helps.

I spelled Fluconozole incorrectly.

Don't forget the Magic Mouthwash! (At JH they call it Larry's Solution).

Rob was put on fluconazole and magic mouthwash for thrush on Monday. He was in so much pain over the weekend he wasn't eating at all. I looked in his mouth and tongue was totally covered in thick white guck and some on his throat.
Yesterday, he ate everything in sight (although no taste) and is feelingmuch better. Does still have a sore spot on his tongue but doing great.
They put 2 bags of fluids in him on Monday along with some morphine. Once we left chemo he has been the energizer bunny for 2 days now.

Remember even if the thrush goes away you have to take the fluconazole for the full 14 days or it will come right back.
