in Kidney Cancer #1

Just found out that I am scheduled for a Open Partial Nephectomy on June 13th to remove my 2.5cm tumor. Because of my blood disorder, I will be admitted 1 week prior to surgery and they are planning on keeping me up to 3 weeks after, so basically a 1 month hospital stay.

    CT Tomorrow

    I'm more worried about boredom than anything going wrong during or after surgery. No TV, cant speak Japanese, no Internet, and a Japanese diet for 3 or 4 weeks. I will load up my Kindle with plenty of books. 

    Tomorrow I have a head to toe CT w/contrast, so keep your fingers crossed that nothing else is found. I keep reading on these forums how a 2.5 cm tumor is nothing, and that I won the cancer lottery, I don't feel that way. I have also read of plenty of people with small tumors that have spread. Sometimes I think its better to not read these forums.

    Fingers crossed for you here that nothing else shows up - that's pretty well a certainty - you won't have read of 'plenty of people' with small tumors that have spread because it just doesn't happen - metastasis from small tumors is virtually unknown.

    Don't forget to load up your Kindle for such a long stay.  Maybe even an elementary course in Japanese would be worth thinking about - it would probably make you very popular with the people who ae going to be caring for you if they see you're trying to learn a little of their language.

    Evidence

    I'd back the paper G has cited (which is highly authoritative) and the papers by the top experts in the field - the people  treating such patients - which I've read, against any unverified anecdotal evidence you can come up with Joe from a handful of people you don't know.

    Still, you must decide for yourself what you want to worry about.

    Well thats good to know. I must of read story's of all 02% of the people that have tumors smaller than 4 cm that Dr's have found other spots on their bodys. That's why I think its best that I don't read these forums, it seams to up my stress level! Lol

    I hope your ct scan goes well. My husbands kidney tumor is only 2 cm and it has spread to his liver and many lymph nodes.  I believe and pray you will be fine, but wanted to let you know that you are right and that does, unfortunately, happen. Best wishes to you!

    And youre right :-)

    Dont spend too much time in here if it makes your stress level go up by reading all the "case stories". For obvious reasons a lot of those with no complications following surgery, or long time NED, arent active in here in general, so dont let this forum be a reflection of the majority when you read the posts.

    Come for knowledge, support and caring, whether it be giving or taking it in here, but dont use whats accummulated in here to diagnose your own situation (if you get my drift).

    Good luck with the scan (and the op for that matter) :-)
