Need help (Totally OT)
I need help for a 'name' for our "new old" boat we recently bought. 'New' because she is 'new' to us but is OLD as she is OLD! She is a 1961, 16', fiberglass Pipestone that is bright yellow primarily with white tailfins (reminecenant [sp?] of cars of that era). Hubby has been calling her 'Banana' and I've been calling her 'Canary' but neither really fit. Spring will eventually come here (we had 9" snow at the house last night) and we can start taking her out - so any ideas for a better name for her?
SO - help with a 'calling name' for her!

Boat names
These names might fit for your boat:
1. Donoma - it means "sight of the sun" or "visible sun" in the language of the Omaha Native Americans.
2. Zitkala - it means "bird" in the language of the Lakota Native Americans
3. Zitkaza - it means "canary" in the language of the Lakota Native Americans.

NO WAY! You see I'm seriously petrified of big boats that go out in the oceans because they will sink and a submarine defiinately sinks every time it goes under water! Hubby was in the Navy for 20 years and all those years I only went on a carrier twice while tied to the pier and could never get farther in than the hanger bay standing where I could look out the open elevator door. Thankfully he was a PR (Parachute Rigger) so he only did quals and cruises. On the way back from his last cruise (after Desert Storm), I sent the boys out to come home with him on the Tiger Cruise (for male family members to come back Stateside from Hawaii. It's just me that can stand to be on them.
There is a reason for that. When I was 6 we went to France on the maiden voyage of the United States. The first day out we had 'lifeboat drills'. We 6 y/o me knew that lifeboats meant sinking and 'drills' were what Daddy with his Airmen on the Parade grounds - boats sinking and men marching up and down an open area had nothing to do with each other. Mom never explained to me (Daddy was already in France). Also they had taken the extra lifejackets out of our stateroom and not put any child size ones in it - so to my 6 y/o mind we were doing to the life boats because the boat was sinking and I didn't have a life jacket, nor were there any of Daddy's men there to protect me. Also there were huge water tight doors every so often that they could close in case of sinking - one meal we were going to the dining room and I realized I'd forgotten my doll so Mom let me run back to the stateroom for her. Well while I was in the room they had a door test and when I came out the door was closed so again I just knew the boat was sinking and they had closed the door to keep all the adults safe as it'd be better to loose one little girl than the adults. When they were able to open the doors I was sitting on the floor talking to my doll telling her it was OK we were together and the adults would be OK. Then we also went through a hurricane in the N. Atlantic. So no - could not call our fun boat after a sea going boat that I am coonvinced will sinnk. Illogical I know but my reality.

Well, lemon is probably a poor choice. How about "The Yellow Cab" "Old Yeller"? If you were in California I would suggest "The Banana Slug" You could go with something simple like Sunshine or Sun on the Water. Or just name it Our Boat.
While gorwing up our neighbors John and Margaret bought a boat. Now, Margaret had wanted a dishwasher and John woanted a boat. John got is way and wanted to name it "The John" but Margaret made him promise she could name it. So it was christened "Margeret"s Dishwasher".
I am sure others will come up with better names. Just enjoy it and smooth sailing to you always on land or sea.
