I'd go with GOOD! Theymaglets said:call
just got a call from my primary care doc to say that radiologist did not like ultra sound on liver.....she saw no mets but she does not feel it is a complete picture and the ct is better. I guess I knew that ...still trying to reduce rads....another 2 weeks till I see onc and will get CEA's.....they have been pretty dependable for me
so what do you think? radiologist said she saw no evidence of mets but the pic was incomplete....I think I will try to go with....GOOD this is good at least until further word comes down the tube...

I'd go with GOOD! They didn't see anything, but they want to make sure. Try not to worry and celebrate no mets!

Can you now call your Onc in a few days to see what your CEA is? I would be bugging them until I got my results. I'm sure it doesn't take two weeks.
As for your choice to have a CT scan, I can't even begin to help you there. I pray that you can make this decision with faith and hope.
Sorry that you had to undergo a more traumatic exam at the hands of a student, but even though it was uncomfortable I bet she learned something, which is what students are all about.
Blessing to you as you wait, wait, wait.

Take it as good. We have to take what we can get. It sounds like there is no need for concern. They just want to be thorough.

This sounds like good news to me! Since your CEA has always let you know if something was brewing, get those results and celebrate 4 1/2 years NED!

I'm not surprised. It's great that your onc wants to reduce radiation. Not surprised that the radiologist is dissatisfied with the picture. I would be happy with this news. Are they going to do a scan or just go by the CEA?
Congratulations

Was the radiologist who did the ulta sound aware of the surgeries you have already had on the liver? I don't know anything about how it grows back, but have to believe that there must be some difference from the "orginal" vs the "new". Maybe that has some influence on the picture gotten.
The fact that no mets were found, it more than good...that is great!
Now if it were me I would be calling daily to find out about CEA, just to help get the picture in perspective.
Wishing you only better and better news as more info available.
Hugs,

there is no doubt when the radiologist looks at the liver they can see it is resected.....strange shape and lots of things are not where they are supposed to be. apparently there is a lot of metal hardware floating around holding things.... I guess the ultrasound just does not give a clear pic of either the liver or the colon....
I am soo soo bad at calling anyone....don't want to bother anyone....
I am more relaxed tonight than last so just going with that......thanks to all of you

Mags
Beautiful Mags,
I continue to pray that all is well for you. You do have an incredible amount of patience to have put up with the student. But, I agree with the experienced tech. No need for you to go through that again.
Hoping that some day we can sit down and have some tea together.
Aloha,
Kathleen

dang it all...yesterday was such a bad day. My friend with breast cancer asked me to be with her for the results of her ct scan....sure enough liver mets.....the onc has halted all hopes of chemo until she gets these mets sorted out so next a liver biopsy....can anyone tell me about liver needle biopsy???? painful??
then I am sitting there in shock and the onc turns to me and says...."i am reviewing your latest ultrasound"...long story short she is not going to let the ultrsound stand....because the radiologist rejected it ....the onc has called for another ct scan....about my 20th.....I must glow in the dark by now.
you know that little thrill you get when testing is done....well it's gone and my heart is breaking for my friend and I can thoroughly say this morning that I HATE CANCER...
thanks for listening.....mags

I am sorry that you have to go through all of this.I have probobly had about 30 PET CAT MRI not to mention several chest x-rays and evan a bone scan. I learned that I would rather take the radiation. 2 years ago my onc an I agreed to wait a year in between scans after I was NED for a year. As a result I had an 8cm liver tumor that grew out of my liver and attached to my diaphram and peritoneum. I shouldnt have waited that long. I would rather never do a scan again. But scans are part of life when you are stage IV. I learned that I will take the radiation rather than risk catching a recurrence too late. I was fortunate that I was still operable but I cant help thinking that had I done a scan earlier other organs might not have been involved.
You are in mh thoughts and prayers every day.
Hang in there.

Awe Mags, I'm so sorry you had such a rough day. I don't think a liver biopsy is painful. People are often apprehensive about the liver biopsy due to the possibility of seeding, if in fact it is metastasis.
I think it's great that you're having a ct scan. I do understand your concerns about radiation and the dye. Steve has likely had fifty scans in two years. Not an exaggeration. The ct will be more accurate and you will know for sure that there is nothing that requires any attention. You don't want to have any regrets later. Imagine going for a test in another six months and having something show up. You would think, "Geez, I should have had a scan instead of the ultrasound." We all know how important it is to catch it early. Think of how good you'll feel once you have the scan results!
As for your friend, I'm sure accompanying her to these appointments must bring out all those old feelings of terror that tend to die down over time. She
is lucky to have your support. It's interesting that you both have the same oncologist but yet different cancers. I'm guessing that is due to living in a small, rural area?
That thrill you get once testing is done will return. Your friend will be okay. Many women live for years with breast cancer. She will adjust just like you did. It will be easier for her as she has your support and first hand knowledge. Having said that, I HATE CANCER TOO.
