Four days off from rad treatments
My radiologist said I would have four days off then back taking the treatments, he agreed I was burnt to bad to continue right now. I told him I can't stand my cloths to touch it. or my hands or water. So maybe the four days will help. I am using the cream. I will be so glad when this is all over with. Thank you everyone for your prayers and hugs. I pray for everyone and hugs also. There is still a lot of good people of all politics thank goodness. I hope everyone has a good day or night depending where they are. I pray for the people who where injured or family of the ones who lost there life at the marathon. Such a horrible shame.

I am so glad that your rads oncologist gave you 4 days off. I hope that will be enough. If it isn't, you be sure and tell him you need a few more days to let your skin heal. Don't be afraid to speak up.
I do hope it will help a LOT! Keep the creams on and good luck to you.

I hate it when someone is burnt so badly by rads. When I had my treatments, my rads onco stopped a woman for 2 weeks as she was burning too badly. Her skin healed up almost in those 2 weeks and she got to finish.
How many more treatments do you have left?

I had a bit of an issue with
I had a bit of an issue with burns near the end of my treatments. Although I had been using a cream regularly from the start, I still had a bit of a problem to contend with. My med people were very watchful of my skin from the start. When the rad people weren't too sure about things, they had others come to check, med people there who were better judges about whether to go ahead or not with rads.
When my burns became a problem at first, it was the area that had been being radiated for 28 rounds. I was to start my boosts, and so they went ahead with that. I did have things I was to do at home to help heal the burns and prevent infection -- silvadene slapped on the oozing spots for about four hours and then I was to dab the area clean with very diluted hydrogen peroxide. Because I was able to finish the boosts on schedule, one of the nurses at the RO place would check the area, clean it, lightly get rid of the dead skin before I'd go to another room for the boost. Then I would go back to the room and the nurse would put silvadene and gauze back over the areas.
I knew when I finished the boost I needed to watch for 7-10 days to see if any burning showed. I had a little. Since I was already treating the initial area, I knew what to do and started it before I went in for a follow up in relation to the initial burning. I did heal quickly in both instances.
I know that there were some where I went who were not as fortunate, whether rads for bc or for some other type. I felt fortunate that the burns did not become an issue until I was finished with each segment -- the regular rads and then the boost.
I do think that if you do what you need to do, you ought to heal more quickly than you feel you will. I had a few times with the initial burns (more widespread) when I was quite sore; but that quickly subsided as I got into the silvadene routine. I wasn't as sore with the burns from the rads, as they were not as widespread or as oozy.

I hope 4 days is enough!
I did not burn during rads but after. Slight pink on day 24 a little pinker on day 25. The next day I was burned over the entire radiated area. Radiation does continue to "do its thing" long after the last dose. My last rads ended in early/mid March 2010 and the last scabs from the burns came off in late June - have the scars to prove it. The entire radiated area was burned - thankfully the deepest of the burns were in areas that nerve damage from surgery had made those areas numb so I didn't feel the worst of the burns.
Someone mentioned Silvadene - Silvadene is basically the same as Sulfadene and if you are allergic to sulfa drugs (many are - as I am) they are not somethig to us. What finally healed my burns was Domobro soaks.

was suppose to go back tomorrow to start again for my radiation treatments. The burns seem worse, if there is such a thing. The four days were not enough, so we called the doctor and I go back Monday. My skin is so very sore and seems more skin is coming off and it has broken open in a few places and very raw, it seems to hurt deep down not just the surface. I can't hardly stand for my cloths to touch it. The area is from back behind and, under my left arm all the way around the front to the start of my right breast.. The area is wide also. Under my left arm where they drain it with a needle is like a large pouch that hangs down. Does any one else have that? I will see this coming Monday what he says. Kmenurse thank you so much for that beautiful prayer. I pray for all my cancer friends, for all what ever need maybe, for the people from the Boston Marathon and the Texas fertilizer plant that God will help them spiritually and comfort them. for what ever there needs maybe for all my cancer friends for all whatever their sickness maybe, I hope everyone is doing better and thank you again. Hugs

I use a cream with about the same spelling it is called silversulfadiazine one percent cream, It hasn't made much difference that we can see. I have the six more to go. I could not stand peroxide anywhere near my burns. I can barley stand the cream going on. My skin is so very sore and seems more skin is coming off and it has broken open in a few places and very raw, it seems to hurt deep down. This radiation is much different from the first one I had. They didn't use a thing they call bullets, like they are now. They used only one machine the first time, now it looks like three that moves in different areas .I hope it gets better and I can get these last six out of the way. I am on oxygen 24 hours a day, and a lot of other medical conditions that it makes it hard going everyday. I hope you do well, glad your burns left quickly, I hope mine does also, Hugs and well wishes for you

Your burns are worse? This is so unfair and I am sorry. Have you talked to your surgeon about the pouch where the drain was? Are you seeing your surgeon Monday too?
Praying for you,

This kind of burn should not happen. I am sorry, but, they shouldn't have let you get burnt this badly before your rads onco stopped your treatment.
The main thing though, is you do have time off and I hope it works.
Thanks for updating us and you take care!

I had severe burns, also. My nurse had me use Domboro Soaks from the drugstore. I used them 3 x a day.
I also lined my bra with white flannel squares while at work (I was a middle school teacher.) Once the rads stopped,
the healing was amazing. Hope you can get through this--let us know how you get along this week. Hugs & prayers
for you..
