BREAST LEAKAGE

WHEN I STARTED HAVING LEAKAGE OUT OF MY RIGHT BREAST OVER 2 YEARS AGO, I DID WHAT YOU SHOULD DO, AND WENT TO THE DR RIGHT AWAY. THEY TOOK A SAMPLE AND SENT IT TO PATHOLOGY,THEY SENT ME FOR A MAMMOGRAM AND SONOGRAM, THEN SENT ME TO A SURGEON. HE TOLD ME AFTER SPENDING LESS THAN 5 MINUTES WITH ME THAT UNLESS I SEE BLOOD, HE DIDNT NEED TO SEE ME FOR 6 MONTHS! UNFORTUNATELY I ENDED UP LOSING MY HEALTH INSURANCE. I WENT AND HAD FREE MAMMOGRAMS THROUGH SUSAN KOMAN FOUNDATION, BUT THEY HAVE ALWAYS SHOWN NOTHING. I FINALLY GOT INSURANCE IN JANUARY, SO I GOT THE BALL ROLLING AGAIN, THIS TIME I MADE IT TO THE RIGHT DR.SHE FOUND BLOOD IN THE DISCHARGE AND  I WAS SENT FOR A BREAST MRI, TO MY SHOCK THEY SAW SOMETHING THAT THEY WANTED TO BIOPSY.THEY SAID THEY DID NOT SEE CANCER!! SHE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A PAPILOMA, IT WAS UNSEEN THROUGH MAMMOGRAMS AND EVEN  SONOGRAMS DIDNT SHOW IT. SHE TOLD ME I NEEDED TO HAVE A LUMPECTOMY. I HAD THE LUMPECTOMY ON MARCH 28TH AND FEEL GREAT. I WENT FOR MY SURGERY FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENT ON APPRIL 9, AND INSTEAD OF BEING TOLD YOUR HEALING GREAT, NICE MEETING YOU, I WAS TOLD SHE FOUND CANCER!! SHE WANTED TO DO A PARTIAL MASTECTOMY, FOLLWED BY RADIATION, I WAS ACTUALLY SCHEDULED FOR SURGERY ON MONDAY APRIL 15TH. BUT AFTER TALKING TO MY HUSBAND AND CLOSE FAMILY AND FRIENDS I HAVE DECIDED TO HAVE A BILATERAL MASTECTOMY. I DO HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A PLASTIC SURGEON ON MONDAY.

I AM SO CONCERNED THAT AFTER ALL OF THE TESTING INCLUDING A BIOPSY THAT THEY DIDNT KNOW THERE WAS CANCER UNTIL THE SURGERY. HOW DO I KNOW ITS NOT IN MY OTHER BREAST?     HAS ANY ONE HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE?

    You should ask your surgeon

You should ask your surgeon to order a ultrasound of the other breast or a total MRI prior to the bilateral mast. My wife just had a bi-lateral after finding a lump which was cancerous in her right breast, she decided to go with a bi-lateral as well. A pre-surgery MRI did not show anything in the other breast but you will not know for sure until the final pathology report from the mastectomy comes in. THey will examine every bit of tissue taken from both breasts for cancer cells and the results will bein the final path report fromthe surgery.  I hope this helps. God bless.

    I am so sorry ...

My suggestion, and this is my opinion .. take copies of you scans, testing, x rays and seek the opinion of another Doctor.  I actually researched and found a Breast Cancer Specialist - 35 miles from my home.  Took all my scans, biopsy report etc with me.

This is a HUGE decision -- take a minute to catch your breathe, and do a little calling around, research and get a 2ND OPINION - providing your insurance company will cover.

    Best of luck -

I am new to this group but I

I am new to this group but I wanted to share my experience..  I went for a routine mammogram and when My PCP Dr. got the report it was abnormal for my Rt. breast and sent me for a needle core biopsy.  That was sent to pathology and that report said invasive ductal carcinoma ER+ PR+ HER2-. My cancer is also very slow growing. Ki-67 test was only 9% normal is 0 to 100%.  They found nothing in my left breast.  I have also decided on a bialateral massectomy mainly because I am VERY large breasted and 63 yrs old.  And also many yrs ago I had a greenish drainage from both breasts that was sent to lab for testing and I was told I had pre-cancer cells.  I will have the bilaterial masstectomy surgery 4-26-13, so it has not happened yet.

I have also read another group member's story where they didn't detect anything in one of their breast on testings but they found cancer in that breast after the massectomy.

Please don't just do what everyone else tells you to, but do your own research and go with your gut feelings, get a second opinion if that is what you feel you need.  You have to feel comfortable with your decissions. This is your life, your body!!!  I will tell you though ask for copies of all your reports.  Keep a file.   Stay Strong, and Positive.  Please keep us posted.  Best of luck to you,  God Bless!... In 2007, I had a green breast

In 2007, I had a green breast discharge from the right breast when squeezed. I went to my primary dr. first, and she couldn't get it to come out and I was too timid back then to do it for her. Regardless, she sent me for a mammogram, which showed nothign. I am not sure of the type of doctor she sent me to next, whether it wasa surgeon or onc, I am thinking surgeon, but not sure.

The appointment with that dr. was worse. He couldn't get the discharge to come out and the only thing he told me was that I should stop having my boyfriend squeeze my breasts during sexual encounters and sent me on my way. No milk duct exploration, no examination of the discharge, nothing.

Three years later I got the bloody discharge in August 2010 (I didn't bother calling the dr. because of my experience the last time thinking that they won't believe me), found the lump in the breast in October 2010. Now I callled.

I had the mammogram and ultrasound on the same day. The radiologist came in and said it was suspicious and wanted to do a vaccuum assisted biopsy. The next week she called and said they found precancer but the lump was so large she reccommended getting lumpectomy because the lump was so large. She also told me the surgeon would take out the worst looking parts, and leave the rest of the lump so I wouldn't be so disfigured. I was floored and so upset thinking why would they only take out PART of the lump and leave the rest to make me look better???? The surgeon assured me the radiologist was wrong and that she would take it all out (the radiologist was Harvard educated).

December 2010 I was diagnosed with DCIS.

During a Pre Surgical  MRI of both breasts, a spot was found in the other breast. I had already made up my mind that IF they even suspected anything in the other breast I would have  a BMX.

Turns out the spot on the other breast was PASH, a benign breast lesion whose only treatment is surgery anyway.

I have never regretted my decision to have a BMX. It was a very easy choice for me. I did not get reconstruction.

Good luck with all your upcoming surgeries and treatments.

Btw, what kind of cancer do you have right now? Type like DCIS, IDC, IBC,ILC etc, Grade (1,2,or 3 ), Stage, er/pr status, and her2 status if applicable.

That's what a MRI is for as

That's what a MRI is for as far as I know.  That's what I had.  They wanted to be sure before my lumpectomy that there was no more bc in that breast and none in my other breast.  If there would have been more bc, it might have changed my surgery, which was a lumpectomy, followed by radiation treatments.

    Good luck to you,

    Angie
