3D mammogram?

Hope it's okay to post here....some background:  December 2010, had my first mammogram at 42 yrs old....had put off going.   Got a call back, had an ultrasound and biopsy and everything was fine.   Couple months later I find out I'm pregnant and had baby #3 in Sept 2011 at 43 yrs old.  We also have two teens!  This past August, the baby was 11 mos old and we found out my husband has stage 4 rectal cancer.   Since the baby has been born, my mother-in-law has died, my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and our middle child was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

It's been crazy and I've put off going to the doctors and for a mammo - mostly because I'm terrified of more bad news.   I have finally scheduled my appt with the gyno next week and will go for a mammogram in the next couple of weeks.  I was thinking of going to the hospital that now has the 3d machine...but wondering if it makes more sense to go to the same place I had the first mammogram so it's a more exact comparison.

Do any of you have any advice on the different machines?

I went to the same Hospital

I went to the same Hospital for mine and they had switched to the digital.  It was abnormal and scheduled a biopsy.  I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) 1.8cm. Very slow growing, infact it was probbly there on the Mamm before and not detective.  I feel that because they used digital this time was why they cought the cancer.  I have very dense fibrous breasts so that makes detection harder.  New technology is usually better.  May god send you a guiding angel... 3D is much better

3 D is much better and uses the same amount of radiation as regular mamogram

I am sorry for all that your

I am sorry for all that your poor family has gone thru Jen.  As far as I know, anywhere you go can get your old mammo pics and results.  You just have to let them know ahead of time so they can request them.  It would probably only take a few days for the new place to get them from your old place.  It's just a matter of you signing a release.

    Good luck,

    Leeza

    3d mammogram

When I had my mammogram it did not 'see' my tumors . One was 6cm and one was 3cm. The ultrasound didn't show it either. The surgeon took quite a large biopsies because of it not showing. I read that the  2D mammo have trouble seeing through dense breasts. So if it was me I'd use the 3D mammo and have the other place send the films . You may not have cancer and next year mammo can be compared to this one and they will have both to compare.

Hope your tests are NED. No Evidense of Disease.

If I were you, I'd go where

If I were you, I'd go where the 3D mammo's are done and have my past test results/mammo sent over.  This is pretty common to have this done.

    Good luck!

I would also get the 3D and

I would also get the 3D and have those techs there look over your prior mammo or ultrasounds.  Wishing you NED!

Hate to sound like a recording here, but, I say go for the 3D too!  Let us know what you decide to do and when you go.

I also have dense breasts and

I also have dense breasts and recommend having the 3D mammo done.  Using the best that you can find in technology is always superior for our tests.
