just venting

I'm almost a year out from my last radiation after chemo and a single masectomy. Frankly, I felt better last year. This year I know way to much about this survivor crap. The new normal will never be real to me, I kept expecting to get some energy back or some strength, not to be pukey all the time, to have a real mind again, to get a job and be a somewhat productive part of the world again. I'm just too tired to start again from scratch, Wish I'd never done treatment at all but I listened to the Docs without really, really thinking about results. If you're late 50's early 60's and single don't forget that when your vacation/sick time is used, you not only won't have an income, you won't have any insurance either. After you sell everything you can and spend all your retirement and savings you get to humiliate yourself to the hospital accounting department begging for help. When you get through everything and go job hunting, good luck, a 60 yr old *cancer person* yeah, right, there's a good choice huh? I wouldn't hire me either, too risky for insur. reasons. So now I vented, it's 3:40 am, maybe I can sleep?

Help Is There, Seek It Out....

    Hi Joanwayne,

Have you talk with a mental health counselor?  I think it might be helpful to go back to your cancer center and see what help they can give you.  After a year, you should not be feeling so miserable, especially to be pukey all the time.  Have you spoken to your oncologist or primary care doctor about this problem?

Now as far as hiring, you don't need to advertise that you had cancer.  If they ask about the gap in employment, you could give some other excuse as "family problem" (which could be your mother, father, sibling).  They can't ask you specificc and no one needs to know that you had breast cancer.

Venting is fine but I think your asking for help.  There are a lot of people on this forum who have gone through the same as you have and some are now happy and succesful.  Read Sweetvickid post  :

      http://csn.cancer.org/node/257011

I remember reading this lady's post when she wasn't as happy.  It is a good post to read.

First things first too.  Do not let the people in the business office humiliate you.  They are there to offer help.

You do need to know why your still having some of these problems like nausea or vomiting.  Please see someone asap.

Then see if you can find some help with the counseling.  There is nothing to be ashamed in having had breast cancer, it isn't something anyone would choose.

There is help out there, go find it and report back to us.  Lots of women have been through this very same problem.  I hope they reply to your post.

    Best to you,

    Doris

    For kmenurse

    Dear kmenurse:

Your little illustration of the frog brought a smile to my face.  Smile

My Dad died yesterday after a long illness.   I am happy that he will no longer be suffering but as my cousin stated, my heart aches to think I will never hear his voice or see an email in my inbook from him.

Today, I began Cycle 2 of my treatments Frown and hate the thought of the side effects to come.

I needed to smile.  Thank you.

    Doris
