Rague,  On chemo day, I keep going to eat Mexican food after chemo (Taxol).  It just sounds SO GOOD.  And it IS good, for about and hour.  Then the Taxol and Tacos start fighting and twisting in my poor stomach.  I was just trying to warn other so they didn't fall for that 'Mexican food sounds good' trick on the way home from having Taxol :)

    Interesting Topic

When I did taxol, the whole process took me farther into the afternoons than did the AC (weird, I guess).  Because I often had to play mind games to make myself eat, I discovered that I was more apt to eat lunch on chemo days IF my driver/companion for the day would go out and get us lunch -- I bought.  The idea of making my lunch did not appeal at all to me (except for maybe a yogurt).

Week 1 we did Taco Bell.  I decided to test myself enough to take a chance on eating TWO soft tacos plus sharing an order of nachos with cheese with my companion (one of my sister-in-law).  I also had her get me a large lime drink.  She got what she wanted as well.  I had no problems with what I consumed.

Since that worked well, what I did was go online and check the menus for other nearby fast-food restaurants.  Then I would jot the place and my item choices down so that I would be ready for Week 2.  I kept my list in the pocket of my cover I bought for my Kindle (which I always had with me for chemo).  Over the weeks I had taxol we dined on food from McDonald's, Wendy's, and Burger King.  One of the times I changed ahead of time what I planned to order because I had had a reaction to the taxol and the combo of drugs they gave me to calm my system down were ones the med people told me would make me very sleepy.  So, I had my driver/companion for that day bring me a salad and chili rather than a sandwich and fries.  I knew that the chili containers did a great job keeping things hot for quite awhile, and the salad would keep.

I pass all this on as I remember how taxol did/did not affect my eating habits.  I did eat better when I was on taxol than when I was on the adriamycin and cytoxin.  A year ago now I was just starting chemo (followed by radiation).  Today I am 400 miles from home, visiting family.  I drove the distance myself and did fine.  I return home tomorrow.  I hope that encourages you to know that things will get better for you.

    Great to hear from you

Great to hear from you DesertGirl!  I enjoyed hearing about your Taxol Eating Adventures!!  I do find I feel much better if I keep something in my stomach!  I think I'm on about week 10.  It has only made my stomach upset twice maybe.  My body picks a new side effect every week so I don't get bored :P

WOW!  400 miles away - visiting!  That's the sort of thing I am looking SO forward too.  It is great to hear from someone who is there already!

    We are each unique!

On A/C and Taxol, I lost all sense of taste (Nothing tasted bad but it didn't taste good either - just no taste) and all thoughts of eating left (no nausea or anything along those lines - just did not think about eating at all).  My not eating was probably the worst time for Hubby in dealing with my IBC.  My DX was hard for him - he had lost his Mom to Cervical Cancer when he was 9 but he had also seen what not eating does - My Mom was a long time aneorxic and we were married for her last 5 years so he was 'petrified' that I might become her.  He would call me several times a day to remind me to eat and found great recipes that he made to get me to eat.

IF you want to say that you had issues after eating something - go for it but to say a particular business is going to cause ALL others a problem is wrong!

    about the chili

Since you were challenged by Mexican foods, would that maybe be for spicy foods in general?  I probably should have said above that the chili (Wendy's) did not bother me when I ate it.

As it was on that day, the drugs did not knock me out, and so I was ready for lunch when Patty returned.  The med people there marveled at the fact that those drugs did not make me at all sleepy or wiped out.  So, my tolerance to Mexican food and other spicy foods may have  been just how it is with me.  (I would not have been so bold when I was doing AC.)

Rague, It was just a lighthearted post meant to make someone smile while poking fun at myself.

I love Taco Bell, that's why I can't stay away from the place.

I am sorry if you feel like I was 'giving medical advice' I certainly didn't mean it to come across that way to you.

I found your post light-hearted and funny

I took Taxotere, but like Rague, my eating was affected by everything tasting pretty crappy.  My go-tos were peanut butter sandwiches on white bread and Cheerios with milk (neither of which I usually eat)!  Go figure.  I do agree with you though--I tried a million things that "sounded good" only to spit them out in horror.  One night my husband was cooking something for himself in a frying pan, it smelled so bad to me that I started screaming and he had to run out of the house with the frying pan!

    Hugs, Renee

    Thanks Renee!

Peanut Butter is a real life saver!  That works for me too!

We have some pre cooked bacon that my kids eat before school - it smells AWFUL!  I'm thinking of making them warm it up in the garage!! Oh! and ketchup tastes like turpentine!

I look forward to my taste buds getting normal again :)
