PCa3 test after DaVinci RP ?

Hey Guys,

I have a neighbor that had a RP via DaVinci around 6 months ago.....no other treatment.  I think he was a 3/4, or a 4/3 sorry I don't remember which. His PSA is starting to rise very slightly, and he is obviously concerned about mets.   Would a PCa3 test be of value to determine if the gene is being expressed by diseased margins, or distant tumors ?

Seems like thiswould help prior to making a decision about possible salvage radiation .  I had a PCa3 test done to help my decision for my First biopsy, now scheduled on 4/4.

Good luck to us all,

BG

    PCA 3 urine test

........Is not applicable in this case since the test is done by vigorously massaging the prostate. Since your friend had his prostate removed, this test cannot be done.

    What is your friends PSAs?

I understand the massage, but I thought that was to express more PC material from the prostate.......If the margins were positive, or distant disease present, would expressed genetic material still show up  ?   Or, would the urine only pick it up from traversing the prostate ?

Not a simple qustion from a simple mind

Not being a scientist, I cannot answer this question; however at this point it is an indicator for early dection within the prostate. According to wikipedia it is not effective for extracapsular extension. when massaging the prostate.

Here is information about this new test that indicates where the test is effective and not effective

    PSA

After davinci surgery the psa level will rattle around. It takes time for the body to rid its self of the psa. Now the numbers need to be watched and tracked. The doctor will look at the doubling of this number and the time. The other item to keep in mind is was the cancer contained to the prostate, or was there ECE involved. You really need more then 6 months of data to see what the PSA is doing. The Psa test after surgery will also pick up on dead psa cells. I hope this can help, by the way I like your picture.

    Nobody alike.

Bill, the prostate cancer in 80% or more cases, the Gleason score rules of the intensity of the PC. The psa has a very low effect of the out come, but can be come important as on a higher scale of gleason scores. I had a low psa 6.8 with a high gleasons 4+5 and in my case the cancer escape.  I see a lot of cases psa 25+ and gleasons 3+3. in there case the cancer is contain and treatable without removal.

Now my psa is 0.6 this month with multi Lymph node tumor's and 0.6 psa is nothing. Don't let the number's drive you crazy and these Internet sites. If your doctor is a specialist in prostate cancer then listen to him.

    Thank you for your service.
