Im new to this site and i have alot of questions. MY husband has stage 4 gilblastoma. I thought he was having a stroke so i rushed him to the hospital back in Nov. but after a battery of test, they found he had a tumor 3 inches. So first thing on a monday morning he had surgery. They got some of it. He has done his first round of chemo and radiotherapy, for 8 weeks. He started his second round of just chemo for 5 days oncce a month for the next year. Im so scared...We have been together 29 years. I think ijust really needed to find a site that i can read about other people and see what is going to happen and what i can do to help him...My husband is only 55 years old.

    We are battling the same

We are battling the same monster.  My father, 63, was diagnosed last week and he is inoperable.  He and my mother have been married 33 years.  My whole family has never felt so lost and helpless.  I have zero words of wisdom here, just letting you know that you are not alone!  Best thoughts and wishes for your husband and piece of mind for you.

i have read your blogs and I am sorry for your loss.  You said your husband had 3 surgeries, may I ask you questions.  My 30 year old daughter was diagnosised in August 2012.  She has had surgery, radiation, chemo and Gamma Knife.  Eight months later they believe they see another tumor.  Next week she is scheduled for MRI Spectroscopy.  Does the second and third surgeries help? I would do anything to give her more time, but with good quality.  Any insight you can share is greatly appreciated.

    I AM NEW TOO

I AM NEW TO THIS SITE TOO. I AM 39 AND HAD A BRAIN TUMOR REMOVED ON DEC 3,2012. MY HUSBAND THOUGHT I WAS HAVING A STROKE. I JOINED THIS SITE HOPING TO FIND SOMEONE TO TALK TO GOING THROUGH THE SAME THING. I WENT THROUGH 6 WEEKS OF RADIATION AND A CHEMO PILL (TEMODAR). AND I JUST STARTED MY 5/23 DOSE OF TEMODAR I WILL BE DOING FOR A YEAR. DID YOUR HUSBAND HAVE HIS FIRST MRI AFTER THE SURGERY YET?

New treatment - hope for GBM

Hi, very sorry to hear about your husband's disease. Hope he recovers well from the treatment, but GBM is a bad unpredictable type of tumor. Difficult to say how much chemo and radiation will benefit, even though it benefits the chances of recurrence is quite high. I am not trying to scare you but i am saying this of a personal experience. Mu uncle was diagnosed with GBM and underwent surgery followed by chemo and radiation. Initially he was okay but there was recurrence of disease, he was practically given very less hope. Chemo and radiation didn't help much. He went for a new treatment "SPMF" really did benefit from it. Its been amost 4 yrs since the SPMF treatment and he is doing well and going to office. I feel you should try out this treatment for your husband. You can visit the website for more details .

My husband died 21 April 2013

what is this SPMF.  Not that it matters for us since my Eddie died april 21, 2013 at 5:54 am after 6 and a half year fight with gbm stage 4.  We did 2 craniotomies accompanied by the chemo and concurrent radiotion on surgery 1, then only Temodar (chemo) to accompany surgery 2.  Then gamma knife aand finally avastin and CCNU.  He got 6 and a half years, way more than 99% of GBMers but he was only 48 when he died and he was so healthy looking otherwise, and he was just too young and it is all just soo wrong in so many ways.  I got on tonite because i am despondent and instead of comfort i feel my heart break for each bewildered frightened distraught entry I read.  We went through it all.  The longest survival we'd heard about was a man who'd had a blog several years ago and he'd survived through surgeries and recurrences for 13 years.  For those who don't know yet a lot depends on the location, the size, the stage of the cancer and then on the individual; if they are relatively young, strong and healthy like my husband was, or if they were as Ted Kennedy was 77 years old with a difficult location to operate on.

Annwaz- I am so sorry for loss of your husband, and that your heart hurts. He survived for 13years and so did you! Sometimes/most

of the time, I think it is so much harder for the care giver tahn for us with GBM. Bless your heart! I am stage 4 GBM also, I would love to get 13years out of this deal. My daughter is only 6yrs old and I worry so much about damaging her by leaving when she is so little. You have offered some HOPE! Thanks! Ryan

    My Wife

My wife had a seizure on May 29.  She was diagnosed with a Grade 4 Glioblastoma.  Since then she has had an awake craniotomy and has completed three weeks  out of six of Chemo and Radiation.  The doctors tell us that the goal is to get a good year and then go for a second and I hope on and on.   I can not belive how our lives have changed in such a short time.  We have been together 40years and we have discussions I could never have imagined last year.  The emotions involved range from anger to depression to hope and everything in between.   As the care giver you must insure you stay healthy so you can be at your best.  I hope you are being successful with treatment and you husband is doing well.

    me too

    Hi, Annwaz.

I rarely get on this site now since I lost my 29 year old son on Oct 15, 2012. He fought hard and suffered through a brutal 3 1/2 year battle with a grade three anaplastic oligodendroglioma--the kind of brain cancer that the first doctor told us that if you had to have brain cancer, this is a good one to have. What an idiot. Anyway, I also feel heartbroken for all the desperate, firghtened posts on this site. I want to be able to offer comfort but after what we went through, I don't feel like I have much to offer. I pray that someone, some doctor or some research facility, will find a cure for this vicious disease. And I hope and pray that they find it soon.

    Love and blessings,

    Cindy in Salem, OR
