Up and down day -- Update
It has been 3 years today since I heard the words "you have cancer". I am happy that I have been dancing with NED since I finished treatment. I was doing fine today until I got a phone call from a close friend. He told me that they suspect he may have prostrate cancer. He is going for a biopsy on the 9th and asked if I would be able to take him. Of course my answer was yes. I told him I will do whatever he needs as his wife is not well and totally dependent on him.
Needless to say I feel kind of bummed out now.
Cancer stinks and needs to be stopped!!!
Hugs,
Georgia

I hope your friend doesn't have prostrate cancer. I am so sorry for his situation. It is always harder to do alone and with a wife that isn't well, that the pits.
Kudos on your own status.
Best,
Doris

Hi Georgia,
Im so sorry thatHi Georgia,
Im so sorry that you are having a bad day, first of all congrads on being NED for 3 years, we just got home form the hospital this afternoon form my wife having a double mast with lympph node removal. My step father has prostate cancer but is living a happy healthy life. Prostate cancer form what I understand is a very slow growing cancer here is a quote directly off of the ACC website concerning prostate cancer "The good news about prostate cancer is that it usually grows slowly. And 9 out of 10 cases are found in the early stages. Overall, the 5-year relative survival rate is 100% for men with disease confined to the prostate or nearby tissues, and many men live much longer. When the disease has spread to distant areas, that figure drops to 31%. But these numbers are based on men diagnosed at least 5 years ago. The outlook may be better for men diagnosed and treated today". So just as you are NED there is a very good chance that your friend may be in the early stages which is nearly 100% survival rate. My step fathers ONC says that even though her has elevated PSA that show early signs of PC, he is not going to begin any type of treatment until his PSA levels raise to an unacceptable level. He is 70 years old and his Onc said even without treatment he could easily live another 10-15 years. It becomes a quality of life issue. They now have robotic surgery that can remove the tumor without any of the old prostate surgery problems such as incontanence (sp) or the inability to get an erection. Not sure how old your friend is but there is hope ahead. With your experiance you can be of great asissitance to him as you can relate to the fears, concerns and feeling he may experiance. So don't be bummed, keep a positive attitude and let him see you as a survivor to give him hope that this beast we call cancer doesn't always win, especially if we fight like hell. God bless you, please keep in touch.

Hi, you may recognize me from the anal cancer board, I am also almost 2yrs post treatment for Stage3b anal cancer. I was diagnosed with breast cancer last spring, and had a double mastectomy.
I am so sorry to hear about your sister. What type of breast cancer was she diagnosed with? It is unbelievable the things I have learned from people here about breast cancer, and am still often confused. Ther are so many different kinds and treatments when compared to anal cancer. Tho our treatment was "brutal" we were all treated very similar with many comparible side effects. Breast cancer seems to have a much larger varience! You will be a huge help to your sister as a support person who has been through cancer treatment and now dealing with life after.
I will keep you and your sister in my thoughts and prayers.

My friend's biopsy has been
My friend's biopsy has been postponed until next week. They called him on Friday to make sure he had stopped the asprin a day that he takes and with all else he has going on he forgot about that part. They had to reschedule because he has to be off of it for at least 10 days prior. I will let you know what happens. Again thank you all for your prayers and well wishes for him.
Hugs,
Georgia
