Do I have cancer or I had cancer?
Kenny and I were on our way home from the hospital yesterday. We found out that the Cancer had not spread, which they thougt it may have. But all test came back clean. Anyway, Kenny said he didn't know whether he should tell people when they ask if he has Cancer or if he had Cancer. What do you think? Cindy

All kidding aside, you HAD cancer. Your scans are just to make sure it stays that way!

I had cancer, but not anymore
Cindy,
In my current state, with clean scans for 1-year post I say “I had cancer”. In my mind at the start of treatment “I have cancer” and some time during treatment the beast was killed. When conversing with my H&N friends I would like to think it is gone, but once you have had it you know anything is possible.
Now to say “the cancer has not spread” sounds like you have cancer. It can not spread unless you have it.
I hope you do not have cancer so there is nothing to spread.

Congrats !
Cindy
FIRST....Congrats on Kenny's clear tests ! That's always great news.
I usually say, "I'm a tongue cancer survivor" when I meet people for the first time (I always feel like I have to explain the scars, and the speak issues, etc).
Using the past tense of "HAD" maybe makes it easier mentally I think.
May Kenny always say he HAD cancer, because now he doesn't.

How about
"recovering from cancer", is kind of how I describe myself now with a clean 3 month post scan, of course I have been known to say I beat cancer too.......
I suppose it depends on your audience to a point. Anyway congrats on the clean scan.....

Congradulations
I would consider myself a survivor. Cancer is in the past unless we can see it in our present. Rick.
