Have you read any good books lately?

A few I think that you might enjoy:Shanghai Girls by See; The Language of Flowers by Diffenbaugh; Winter Sea by Kearsley (a light but fun read); The Baker's Daughter by Mccoy.

I am currently reading The Good House by Leary.  My favorite books this past year were Swamplandia (a very dark and twisted trip into the heart of darkness of the Everglades) by Russell, Salvage the Bones (a glimpse of raw poverty during Hurricane Katrina-disturbing but amazing)by Ward, State of Wonder (research gone amok in the Amazon) by Patchett, Sister (heartbreaking and scary) by Lupton, The Snow Child (haunting) by Ivey.  All of the my favorites are beautifully written and thought-provoking, but may not do when you are looking for lighter reading.

Personally, I enjoy rotating what I read.  I often will plow through a substantial and oftentimes more serious book and then follow it with something much lighter.

I am not a reader...but the only books i have read recently are on MY so called no diaganosed ADHD and how it effects your marriage. LOL HEHE

War Brides by Helen Bryan =  Four of the five women who came together to share the 50th Anniversary of VE day in the small town they spent the war years together.    It goes through all the horrible times and deprivation of those years.  There is romance, weddings, babies, learning to live without much of anything, "use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without" is a reality for those who lived in the UK during the 2nd world war and aftermath.  We do learn what happened to the 5th woman at the end of the story, this I expected.  The story has a couple of unusual twist at the end of the story that was totally unexpected but brilliant.

I tried to get into "The Snow Child" which was a great hit with the adults at work.  My boss and I when we really differ on a great read, ask others their opinions.  The majority loved the story and only one other felt the way I did.

Took out "The Language of Flowers" but didn't start it.  I'll borrow it from the Public Library later.  I won't have time to finish it though I know they will give me all the time I need, should I ask. 

I am now on Medical leave (until I resign, when the insurance is resolved) and I do want to return all that belongs to the library.  I have a lot of books of my own waiting to be read, purchase at the public library sales, book sales of stores going out of business etc.

I enjoyed War Brides too!  Forgot about that one.  It was interesting and full of intrigue.  I liked the twist at the end too.

That's funny Denise - I've been trying to get my husband to read that for a decade now!! 

McCarty: I read anything out there for 20 yrs (my olest ahhd and dyslixic) MY husband is so so so ADHD but denies it-it is exhausting-my youngest 21 yrs has right frontal lobe issues basically ADHD and grandson is being tested (which lives with us  along with his mom and borher)

I  highlighted POINTS of interest for hubby to glance at-but I do not think he has picked any of the books up. WE are actaully going to a therapist due to his ADHD (I have gone alone for 2 yrs and now he has come along)
