The wonders of cancer!!!!!!!!
I know this is the anal cancer site but its also my family. On the breast cancer site (my other family) there is a woman who is a 25+yr breast cancer survivor. She was originally dx with IDC Stage3A and received surgery, chemo, rad, along with yrs of daily med. 20yrs later bone matastasis, more rad, and daily AI med, last week she went for a scan and they found....231 liver lesions!!!! Just unbelievable....can you just imagine the tech even counting them all????? She will be having a liver biopsy on friday and is prepared once again to fight. She is like the "Martha" of the BC site and an absolute inspiration and great source of knowledge.
Since so many people here are also women, please don't leave breast health or check-ups to breast cancer awareness month. We need to increase awareness of anal cancer, treatment, and all that recovery entails. There is soooo much public un-awareness right now!! It often angers me when compared to the awareness of BC, but that being said is another area of concern for me.
So, I guess we all need to just keep blinders off and be pro-active in our overall general health.
Even though you don't know her, please keep this woman I mentioned in your thoughts and prayers.

I'm not sure I can be compared to this woman--she is the true definition of a Warrior! But I thank you for your kindness!
You are right, we all need to be aware of our breast health. I get my mammogram in February every year because that's the month of my grandmother's birthday and she had breast cancer. It was not her cause of death, however. All the other months of the year, I (and every other woman) should be doing self-exams. I have to admit, I'm sometimes lax when it comes to these. Thanks for reminding us all of the importance of being pro-active!

She will surely be in my prayers. I just got back from my PCP and we talked about the fact that once a person has cancer there is always the likelihood of another Does this woman have breast cancer again, or is it another cancer?
For me, it is so difficult to sort out symptoms that may be related to cancer mets. We want to be health conscious and not let things go, but how do we know when the headache is brain mets, the leg pains is bone mets, the belly pains ......etc. It is enough to drive me crazy. Having has 2 cancers that were misdiagnosed and growning for YEARS, I don't want that to happen again. What's a person to do?0 -

She really has been compliant and follows doctors orders, words like warrior and survivor have never felt right to me but lack a better description right now, she is a warrior! She does remind me of you with her trusted advice and knowledge.
I'll bet your grandmother smiles at you every February!!!

I know what you mean about knowing if every minor ache is truely something evil brewing. I was just talking about that with a friend I havn't seen in a while the other day. Right now, I feel healthier than I have in years, my labs are usually good, appetite good, I exercise and am loving being back in school, but.....if I don't keep myself busy and mentally occupied that nagging little voice speaks up, you know, reminding me that I had a twinge in my head, or a pain in my chest, ....my friend seemed confused, and I think unless you have lived through at least one treatment of cancer you are just not able to relate. And, the sad truth is that we're not crazy, because it could be more than a minor ache. I guess, we do what we can, and accept that somethings are out of our hands.

You are very sweet to say I remind you of your friend, but I don't think I could hold a candle to her. I want you to know that she is in my prayers.
