Odd Question, but . . .

Since my diagnosis with a mass in my right kidneyon February 27th, I have experienced no overt symptoms of any kind, until, about a week ago I started noting intermittent, very low grade, pain in my right kidney. It is only momentary accompanied by a very brief feeling of nausea.

My question is, did/does anyone else, at this point your treatment, experience those symptoms or is it simply psychosomatic on my part?  I won't rule that out.

My surgery is schedule for May 14 and I am simply trying to stay up on what is taking place until it is out and we know for certain what is going on.

Thanks!

Mike

    Aches and Pains

    Mike,

From what I remember I did suffer such aches and pains between diagnosis and surgery. Maybe I was just more conscious of them following diagnosis.

    I did

I remember noticing that. Yes. Have you had any bleeding?

I was having bleeding, though, too. And I passed some blood clots and the pain was similar to kidney stones which I had before. But after the clots passed, the bleeding cleared up completely but I did noticed a kind of slight pain on that side until I had my kidney removed a month after.

    Thanks!

I appreciate you guys responding.  Like Iceman said, it maybe a result of being aware something is wrong and watching for something, or it could be an easily overlooked symptom. Not sure but I appreciate you taking the time to answer.

Todd, no bleeding at this point. I think thats why I am more aware, I am watching, anticipating it to start anytime. LOL  I'll just be glad when the surgery is over.

    Pax!

    Gall bladder?

    Hi Mike,

My RCC was on the left, but prior to that I had symptoms similar to what you are describing on the right.  Turned out to be my gall bladder, just thought I'd mention it.

Back Pain is 1 of the Symptoms

I had it both times 2002 and 2012 but I am a retired paramedic..my back always hurt and I think most people as they age etc have some back pain....My 2002 experience was found when I literally filled the toilet with blood...that was on Nov 23 my surgery was Dec 18...never saw another drop of blood between those dates...many times it is only a small amount. That is why we need to educate the public about this cancer...the symptoms are so much like regular medical problems that they are easily overlooked. My back hurt randomly too...so it is easy to think you just pulled a muscle. We'll be keeping an out for you if you need us and wishing the best of luck with the surgery too...Smile

The first symptom I had was
The first symptom I had was intermittent pain just below my left ribcage (for well over a year). A few months prior to my diagnosis, I experienced mid back pain, nausea, terrible heartburn, fatigue and random vomiting. That's what sent me to the doc. You also tend to notice every little ache and pain after diagnosis.

In the 6 months before diagonisis...

I has getting some sweats, I was losing weight without trying (I though that as great), I was tired a lot, and I had this non descript pain in my back.  Most of that went away with the nephrectomy.  So, I think those were related.

Similarly, In Sept I started coughing, and had some pain in my upper left lung.  I think I posted my "hypocondria" in here.  At my next scans,  there was a lung met.  After the Metectomy, that pain has gone away.

It could be psycological, or it could be real.  At the moment, I have pain at four parts of my body.  My upper neck, my left side from the last surgery, my hip for unknown reason, and my head.  I hope none of them are related to growing tumors....but this kind of S*** brings out the hypocondriac in us.

    Sweats

I know that night sweats are common with RCC but both times I had it I experienced horrible "all day sweats". The first time I experienced them was in May 2002 ( I remember this because my horse had given birth to her first foal and I drove to SC where she was in training to see the new baby) The sweats hit me so bad that day I had to go back to the hotel and take a nap all afternoon. I was way done with menopause and these were a lot worse than any hot flashes I ever had). I continued to get them and was diagnosed with kidney cancer in Nov 2002 and had my left nephrectomy in Dec 2002...As I healed from that they decreased and eventually went away. This past summer they came back again and you would think I would have put 2+2 together but I didn't...they were really awful too...so after my surgery this time when I went back to my Primary Care Physician because I was so weak and tired we did put 2+2 together and she sent me for bloodwork to check my cortisol levels which came out very high...apparently our adrenal glands do not like it when our kidneys are sick or injured..since the test my kidney has been healing well and the sweats have decreased quite a bit...to me this is an early warning sign...if someone starts having these, male or female and have no other symptoms or complaints my advice to them would be to first have your heart checked out and then your kidneys...hopefully that could help someone find their RCC in an early stage...JMHO...but anything I can suggest to help someone find this cancer early would be so awesome..
