Surgery scheduled and negative nodes!

in Esophageal Cancer #1

Surgery is scheduled for Larry March 22nd. All biopsies are negative! A visit for pre-op tests and visit to oncologist before surgery and we should be good to go! Rollercoaster is a on the upward track right now.

    Great News!!

    Happy that Larry has it scheduled.  Me and the wife marked the Grand Canyon off of our bucket list before my surgery.  The one thing I wish I had done more of is eat all the different foods that I wouldn't be able to eat post op.  My esophagus had healed up some between my Chemo/Radiation and Surgery and I would have visited all the Chinese Buffets, Brazillian Steakhouses and any other all I could eat places I could have fit in before surgery.  Even if not Buffets I still wish I had gone to more restaraunts even if it was proportional meals because post surgery even a normal meal at a restaraunt is too much for a sitting.  Me and the wife have started ordering for one and sharing.

    Will keep you both in our prayers.  Stay positive!  You can beat this!!!

    Great news that all biopsies were negative. I have been watching for word of your results. Best of luck with the surgery. Stay strong!

    I like the bucket list idea. My husband and I have been thinking about things we can do once this chemo session is over if he maintains his strength. He is Stage IV so not a surgical candidate.

    My ex served in Vietnam 1971-75 and has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer.  He was on the USS Enterprise.  He just has a Pet scan after chemo and radiation and not given much hope that they will do surgery.  I beieve the doctors waited to long.

    We went to Alaska in 2010.  The long trip, land and cruise. It was awesome! I love Alaska! I taught Science and saw everything I had read about during my career.

    We went to Las Vegas twice a year, went to see the grandkids and last winter stayed a couple of weeks in Florida.

    Do whatever you can we aren't guaranteed tomorrow.

    Yes I will take all of your advice and make sure Larry eats all of the foods now that he may not be able to eat post op. A trip would be wonderful, however we own our own business and winter is the toughest time of year for us. I sometimes think that the stress of the business is more time consuming and stressful than the beast. My desire is that Larry would just retire and close down the store, but he refuses. That leaves me to run it while he has been off. I so bad want to just spend this time with him. If it were up to me I would be done with it. All of you here have been such a strength for me, and I appreciate all of your insight. I'll try!

    upcoming surgery

    You will both be in my prayers.  Paul had his surgery at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, PA on February 19.  There were no complications and he came home, cancer free on February 27.  May God bless you both in the coming weeks and through the surgery/recovery.  Do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any help with questions you may have concerning what we have been through.  Joyce

    Out to Dinner!

    I have taken your advice and Larry and I are going out for dinner every chance we can! He definitely is a steak and seafood lover. Last night was prime rib and in a few days it will be seafood. We will keep you in our prayers as well.

    Glad all is well for surgery.

    Glad all is well for surgery. I agree with everyone else-Eat and enjoy the next few weeks. It does take time to heal. I ate at one of my favorite seafood restarants Sat. night. It was the first time I was able to eat my complete meal.Afterward we went to friends for dessert and I was able to enjoy that also. My husband was amazed, It was the first time in five years I didn't leave half my meal. It does take a long time, but healing does come. I can eat anything now, but I have to be careful with bite size and lots of chewing and of course eating a few hours before bedtime. I am always the last to finish eating, but that dosen't bother me anymore. After five years I am adjusted to the differences in the new plumbing. Life is so good!
