tart cherry juice
Yesterday I saw on Dr.Oz that if you have aches and pains ,which I do ,go to the health food store and get tart cherry juice. It has been proven to help the pain. Well I got a quart of Fast Fruit. It is $19.99 a quart but you only mix 2 teaspoons a day in 7 ounces of water. I will let you know how it works. I don't know if the shoulder, knee, etc. pain is from my 7 treatments of Rituxin, but I have high hopes for the cherry juice!!!

HI Joanie - are you enjoying your summer vacation? First time I've been on this site for a month. All 3 kids have visited with their children and we've had a great time - trips to Orlando and Daytona for days of fun.
I'm so sorry you're having pains in your joints - haven't heard of that as a side effect of Rituxan. Nor have I heard of cherry juice. LOVE cherries and a friend is now in MI and bringing a box of dried cherries back to me - cherry capital of the USA. Wonder if they'd have the same effect?
Someone mentioned a few months ago that smoked gouda cheese was helpful for NHL - was that you? It's one of my favorite cheeses and I've been buying it since at Sam's and eating often. Wonder what the theory there is? Fran0 -

Hi Fran . Yes I heard an oncologist on Dr. Oz tell people to eat two slices of gouda cheese. He was summerizing and Dr. Oz asked him one statement he would make to help prevent cancer. I told my Dr and he is researching it. Also Dr Oz said it is proven that cherries do help pain. Frozen, fresh or dried or liquid should do the trick. I got the tart cherry from Richards Health Foods. You might have one on your side of the state.0 -

Hi Joanie - you have the best "natural" foods advice! My gift of dried cherries were delivered by my friend today and I've never tasted anything so delicious that are also good for you! Nothing like the dried ones we buy at the grocery store. They're much larger than cranberries or raisins and are from Michigan and new crop - out of this world. She brought 4 lbs. and they're so delicious I may order another box. Made a green salad with mixed baby lettuces, toasted walnuts, blue cheese, cherries and a balsamic vinaigrette - to die for. I'll look for the juice (we don't have a Richards) or perhaps order from the website for cherries - I see they have it too. Fran0 -

Fran,
I too had and have a little pain in the joints.Never had it before chemo. I had R-CVP for 6 months. I had a lot of cramps in my legs along with pain in my hips which I am sure were the joints, but felt like the bone and still may have been for all I really know. Most of the pain was in my left hip where I had the BMB. Each chemo was with Rituxan as you know. A few months out of chemo all the pain and cramps were gone. Then I had my first R treatment and in a few days the hip pain was starting to return, not as bad as the 6 R-CVP treatments. Now I was noticing my left thumb joint was beginning to have sharp pains, but not unbearable. 2 months out of the R treatment and now that pain is gone???? Starting to believe the R may be connected to it somewhere along the line.John(FNHL-1-4A-5/10)0 -

Hi John - it sure sounds as though your joint pain was connected to the chemo and R treatments! I had some of that with all the Neupogen (?)shots I took to bring my white cell counts back, but it wasn't unbearable.
How many Rituxan treatments did you have following R-CVP? That's the plan my Oncy. has for me next, but wants to see if Moffitt in Tampa agrees with that before starting. I understand they're usually 3 months apart for 2 years? Did read a lot of posts recently on this website about using R for maintenance. I'm still interested in RIT's, such as Zevalin and Bexxar but don't think my tumor shrunk enough to be a candidate for that treatment. I'm going to email Betsy who wrote a book about her experience and we emailed for several months a year ago. I'm puzzled if it worked so very well for her and kept her in full remission for 9 years, why isn't it more available and why don't we hear more about it? Perhaps the cost is too high for most insurances to cover? Don't know -
Happy 4th of July to you and yours! Fran0 -

The dried cherries sound great Fran. I bought some little ones in the grocery store. I love the tart cherry juice. It really seems to work. The fireworks were fabulous . We celebrated our anniversary on the boat with 24 friends under the fireworks. What a great day. Hope yours was great too. Life is precious. Every day is a gift I think:)0 -
Cherry Juice
I use it for inflamation in my joints and it seemed to work as good as Celebrex. Not perect but helps. I know my brother-in-law uses it for Gout and sings its praises. Now instead of cherry juice I buy buy small bags of frozen tart cherries and put 3 or 4 in my oatmeal every morning. Steel cut oats with cherries, blueberries and walnuts cooked in Almond milk instead of water is a great breakfast. It sticks to your ribs and is supposed to be healthy. My only problem with it is it doesn't cure my lymphoma which is starting to turn on me in some pretty nasty ways. The snake's head is still intact and its fighting back! Oh yes with that oatmeal you will want a large black cup of Cubano coffee!
