Panitumumab

in Colorectal Cancer #1

So here is the question again anyone had Panitumumab treatment?  My husbands CEA is down to 2.4 and doctor is starting him on  Panitumumab????  He will have it thru IV every two weeks.  The doctor says it kills cancer cells.  I hope this works the doctor wanted him to have a break from chemo.  We will see how his CEA does on this drug.

    I have no personal experience with this drug, which is sold as Vectibix®in the US.

    Vectibix® (panitumumab) is indicated as a single agent for the treatment of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) -expressing, metastatic colorectal carcinoma (mCRC) with disease progression on or following fluoropyrimidine-, oxaliplatin-, and irinotecan-containing chemotherapy regimens.

    The effectiveness of Vectibix® as a single agent for the treatment of EGFR-expressing mCRC is based on progression-free survival. Currently, no data demonstrate an improvement in disease-related symptoms or increased survival with Vectibix®.

    Vectibix® is not indicated for the treatment of patients with KRAS mutation-positive mCRC or for whom KRAS mCRC status is unknown. Retrospective subset analyses of metastatic colorectal cancer trials have not shown a treatment benefit for Vectibix® in patients whose tumors had KRAS mutations in codon 12 or 13

    Panitumimab

    My husband Roger has been on Panitumimab since July of 2012 and has had good results, slow and steady shrinkage and his CEA marker went from 4500 down to 103, however it has not been without side effects.  The rash is all over his body, started on his face and continued from there, but it is very managable, he also has to have his Magnesium levels watched closely, he developed diarrhea from the magnesium supplements he was taking so has to have that infused now on chemo days.  Hope this helps some.  Kim Laughing

    When I had galloping diarrhea, my radiologist prescribed LOMOTIL.Two or three will stop the runs.  Good Luck

    only Panitumimab?

    Rogina,   I'm interested to know:  has your husband been on Panitumimab only since July of 2012   OR  additional chemo as well?  Thanks.

    Vectibix

    Just one treatment so far.   He is on Vectibix/Panitumimab only one treatment to date we will see how he is doing on a blood test next week.  I guess not everyone can take this antibiotic.   A special blood tests determines whether you are a canidate for this drug and my husband was okay to take it.  His CEA is 2.4 so doctor took him off chemo for now.

    Just Panitumimab and believe

    Just Panitumimab and believe me he is happy(except the rash) to be rid of the pump and only an hour infusion. Smile  Kim
