Each hatThanks Kristin,
Each hat takes about 45 minutes to make and yes they are hand crocheted. I have 64 done right now and I will make 6 more before next week so that I will have 70. I see my onc on the 7th of March at the University of Miami, Sylvester Cancer Treatment Center in downtown Miami. There is a rather large CTU there and I will begin giving my hats away there. Next will be the UM CTU where I took my treatments in Kendall. Lastley I donate to La Liga which is a CTU for people who don't have insurance or the money to pay for their treatments. They are so appreciative there. They all want to touch me or hold my hand to say thank you.
I just love doing this.
I have donated hats twice to Miami Childeren's Hospital CTU. I don't get to see the kids there because they are all immune compromised and I would need their parents permission but the hats I make to go there are all special. I put little lady bugs or frogs or butterflies on them. Or I make the whole hat in fun fur. I also add little buttons with inspirational sayings like "Hope" and such.
Did I mention that I love doing this.
Hugs
Donna
Hi Donna,
In 2011, I wanted a 2nd opinion on my rotator cuff (full thickness tear of the supraspinatus tendon) and MRI showed a mass near by. I made an appointment with this orthopedic doctor in the area my parents lived in Florida. I was visiting them during my vacation. Upon seeing my MRI, he sent me immediately to the University of Miami, Sylvester Cancer Treatment Center at Deerfield Beach. A few hours later, there I was in an unknown facility but meeting an extremely nice orthopedic oncologist. He looked at my MRI and wanted a CT scan. One was arranged and two days later I met with him again. As we looked at my ct scan together, he looked at me and said, "thought you told me your cancer was stable". I said, "it was". "Well, it's not any more" as we looked at the ct scan together. He forwarded the information to my doctors who gave me a copy of his report and the CT scan. I really like the Cancer Center and the oncologist I met. It was an extremely nice place. I felt very comfortable and well cared, even though I really was just a transient.
It was the start of the saga I am on now. I am certain that they are very grateful for your hats. I noticed a flyer at the small oncology center I normally use in my home town about knitters. I was just beginning to read it when they called me for my Faslodex shots. As of next week, I will hopefully have my chemotherapy at that place. Today, my first one I go to the large Cancer Center to see how I will doing with it. I imagine that I will have time next week to read the flyer.
May your appointment on March 7th find everything to be in the normal range.

We saw our first Robins lastdesertgirl947 said:Lots of Things
Lots of things make me smile/happy:
- my husband
- my grandkids (they were here for about seven hours today) -- so full of life
- my friends
- my faith
- my home
- a good day, whether at work or at home
- having a sense of humor -- sometimes I don't even say what is running through my mind, as I am thinking that that particular thought is funny only to me; I like a good joke.
I could go on.
We saw our first Robins last weekend! Spring is coming!

Things that make me smile is
Being around my family, enjoying a sunny day, watching my horses eat and just snuggling with them. Taking our dog for a nice walk, getting a game plan for my daughter to compete in a horse competition in March (if I can)

I was actually surprised to see some of my flowers already popping up. I am afraid they will get killed off as we have snow and colder weather coming in this week. One day it is in the 60's and the next it is below freezing. It will make me sad if my Easter lily's get killed. I always love to see them blooming on Easter Sunday.

When I was younger, we had horses on our farm. I used to love to ride, but, haven't for many years. You are so lucky to have horses blazintrails and to still be able to ride.
What kind of horses do you have? And, what kind of competition do you enter?
Sue
p.s. thanks for giving me that memory of when I used to ride too
