Haven't been on in a while but I have a question re: reconstruction

Hi Ladies,

I haven't posted in a while...some of you may remember me. I hop on every once in a while  to see what's going on...so many new names and faces!

As a short recap, I was dx'd in 2009. Had a lumpectomy, 4 C/T chemo and rads. Now on Tamoxifen.

I decided I wanted to do reconstruction so I had the Latissmus Flap done on Dec 14th. I've had 5 fills (going for #6 tomorrow). All is going well. I'll be glad to be done. The surgery was more difficult than expected but the fills haven't been too bad.

For those that had this type of reconstruction done, how long between your last fill were you able to have your implant? Also, my PS mentioned he may have to augment my other breast so can that be done at the same time as the exchange? I want this all done before my son's wedding in June...I think I'll make it!!

Thanks for any help!

Patti

Hi Patti.  I didn't have this surgery and wish you all the best.  I did wonder why you had this done though if you had a lumpectomy too.  Can you share that?

    Thanks, Angie

Sure, Angie. I had my lumpectomy but ended up losing alot of tissue. I think if I had to do it all over again I would have had a mastecomy with immediate reconstruction. I just got tired of looking at uneven breasts.

I am glad to know your fills

I am glad to know your fills aren't painful.  It seems everyone on here always said they were awful, so, that is good.

I've never heard of doing this for a lumpectomy, but, I miss a lot of posts on here.  lol

Is this the only surgery to have to fill in where that tissue was?  I know a few of the mastectomy sisters talked about fat grafs or something, but, I don't know if that can be used for what you have.  And, couldn't they just put an implant in without the rest of the surgery and fills?

I hope someone will post to you and give you some good info.

    Hugs, Angie

    This was the best surgery

This was the best surgery option for me. They can't just put in an implant because my skin was radiated. They put in the tissue expanders to expand the skin making the implant possible.

My fills are no day at the beach, but I'm motivated so it helps!!!

Wish I could help too, but, I don't even know what this surgery is.  Surely someone here has had it done and you will get their advice on their experience.

Good luck and glad you are so motivated!

    Hi Patti,

I had my last fill the beginning of December and I had my implant surgery  done in mid January.  I have not had my other breast augmented yet.  My PS is waiting for the implant to fully settle. (Still not sure what that means)    I go back to see him in August and I have to make a decision by then if I want the breast augmented and if I want  nipple reconstruction on my implant.

Good Luck on your Implant Surgery.
