    Absolutely

I am trying to catch up on reading some of the posts here - wow, Chelsea and Steve do have a lot going on. It's very concerning and I hope they find the problem and a solution very soon for his leg - sounds so scary. Joining you in sending love and prayers and good vibes to Chelsea and Steve. Hope to hear some better news soon.

I'm so flattered that you started this thread, Wolfen. Thank you everyone for your well wishes and prayers. It has been a stressful time.

It's almost 2 am and I'm in Steves hospital room watching him sleep. It is a very drug induced sleep. He's been in tremendous pain. He is being treated for a severe hematoma. It started in the tigh muscle with severe cramps from the dex. The area bruised and became swollen. Swelling and bruising has spread all the way down his leg and up his leg and into the scrotum. It is shocking to see. Nurses from other wards are stopping in to take a peak. The concern is that pressure from the swelling will damage important nerves and the leg will be permanently damaged. They just did another ct scan to rule out blood flowing downward from the abdominal cavity. Bleeding seems to have originated from the cramped muscle. They have given him four units of blood but his hemoglobin continues to drop. They have discontinued his blood thinners. Tomorrow they will insert some type of filter into a vein which
will catch future clots should they try to move upwards. They are reluctant to
cut due to his bleeding problems, but feel it needs to be done. There is also
talk of opening up the leg and draining the fluid. It seems to be a unique
situation for the doctors. I can tell that they are unsure as to what is going
on. I think that the dex and the blood thinners were a bad combination for
Steve. This sure has been a set back for him physically. He seems better
mentally today. Chatty with the nurses. Upbeat mood. Making the best out
of a very difficult situation. Literally cannot leave his bed. Can't even get
up to go to the b/r. If it were me, I'd be nuts.

Thanks again for the support. For those who have offered to pray, can you also request that Chelsea not get fired from her job. That would be a true miracle considering all the work I've missed lately. LOL. Steves onc was correct when she said that managing the cancer is like a full time job. Even though I myself do not have cancer (except for the skin cancer), I feel that I have two full time jobs. One of them is currently on the back burner. But I find the other one doesn't pay so well. Lol

    sorry, dbl post

    Chelsea

I've been waiting for you to be able to give us an update. Gosh, I hope they get this figured out and there is no permanent damage.

I sure understand the stress you're under. I'm a real "wuss" when it comes to watching my hubby suffer. When they tried their little trick in the Emg. room with the catheter, my poor hubby was screaming. This is a big, strong guy who never shows pain, so I knew it was bad. I was out in the hallway and had to walk out of the area.

Do they have anything in Canada like we have in the States, such as the Family Leave Medical Act? I can't imagine having to concentrate on a job at a time like this, though many do. I am older and retired, so no job to deal with.

Please try to get some rest.

    Luv,

    Wolfen

    Hi Mags. Happy Family Day.
Hi Mags. Happy Family Day. How nice of you to be thinking of us while your traveling. It is a very quiet Family Day here at the hospital. I'm doing well. Had a good nights sleep last night. Steve is quite antsy as he hasn't moved from his bed since Thursday. I take this as a good sign.

Have a safe and relaxing holiday.

    Thank you everyone for your
Thank you everyone for your concern and warm wishes. Steves leg is looking much better. The swelling has gone down and the bleeding appears to have stopped. They test his hemoglobin daily and they think it's stable at 84. They say tomorrows number will really tell the tale. He had the filter inserted into his vein last night. (It will catch any clot from the leg traveling upwards). But he does have some clots in his upper body which are currently not being treated as they had to take him off his blood thinners because of the bleeding problem. If the hemoglobin level is stable tomorrow they plan to restart the blood thinners at a small dosage (5000 IU of Fragmin). The plan is that they would gradually increase the dosage. (back up to 18000 IU). They plan to do that while he is here in the hospital. It doesn't sound like he's going home any time soon. He is getting quite restless. Normally when he is here, he does quite well. He's very sociable and enjoys roaming around and visiting with people. Of course things are different this time as he can't get out of bed. So he is finding the time quite long. They plan to have the physiotherapist get him up walking tomorrow. He could likey walk today but they don't want to risk getting the bleeding going again.

Thanks again everyone for your kind words. Steve too is very appreciative that so many people are concerned for him.
